[EGD] Makseemum Powar, Akteevate!
Intro
Hoorah! Another EGD game that I can get far enough to review it! Tbh, my skills at gaming is like a weasel's skills at being a purple llama. Terrible, right? So I jumped for joy when I saw Maximus, a game by Donsnipz. Don’t get me wrong, though. This game isn’t that easy, just easy enough for me to get decently far in it. So pretty much that easy.
Details
Game: Maximus
Maker: Donsnipz
Type: Plat
Pre Thoughts
So, I was looking at the EGD reviewing queue on the Forums, when something caught my eye. Maximus. It was a title that had a good amount of suspense in it, so I decided to give it a shot. Welp, enough of my annoying life story, on to the real deal!
The thumbnail looked different. In it, I saw what appeared to be a new puzzle. It involved a crusher thingie, a hole, and some dirt. This showed me that it was a puzzle game, which was strange because mostly RPG’s and that stuff are entered in EGD. It was surprising that Donsnipz entered a puzzle plat. So 1 point for EGD Originality for Maximus.
Gameplay
As I started playing, I proved myself wrong. It showed a backstory with inscriptions, like an RPG would have. According to the storyline, I am trapped in a mental asylum. Yep. Sounds like my house.
Once the first level of gameplay started, I proved myself right again. It WAS a puzzle plat, just with an intro. How did I know it wasn’t an RPG? Well, for starters, you most likely aren’t going to see claustrophobic Blockhead trapped in little tiny rooms full of puzzles, without the elements that make up an RPG. Secondly, I mentioned the word ‘puzzles’. Most, if not, all RPGs do not have very few/zero puzzles. In conclusion, Maximus is NOT in RPG.
Let us move on to the scenery, that doesn’t exist. No scenery whatsoever. 0. Zip. Nada. Just puzzles and blocks over and over again for every level. No backwalls, no statues, nothing. Donsnipz could have at least put in backwalls in some places. But no.
Puzzles. They were pretty dang good. For example, the one I told you about earlier with the crusher. But that isn’t it. Grenade puzzles, switch puzzles, no-turning-back puzzles, etc. In Maximus, there is a huge variety of puzzles. Nice, Dony.
PROS
-Neat puzzles
-Well told storyline
-Not as hard as stapling water to a tree
CONS
-Much lag
-No scenery
As you can see from this very professional Pros/Cons list, the Pros outnumber the Cons, which is a very good thing.
RATINGS
Maximus is hard, but easy enough for an amatuer gamer like me.
As mentioned above, no decor was placed in Maximus. Bad, Dony, bad.
The enemy placement was great! Everything was where it needed to go enemy wise.
Superb puzzles of all types! Can life get better? Nawp.
The storyline was great! The idea of being set up and put in a mental hospital was a nice idea.
OVERALL
17.5/25
A good score for a good game.
