Spiral of Doom is a game created by danny168

Hello everyone and welcome to another WellDone review. Today, I will be reviewing the game Spiral of Doom by danny168. Huh, another 168. I keep seeing that number everywhere! Ahem, anyways when I looked at the game on his games page, it had 190 views and was rated 3 stars by other members. Of course, everyone has there own opinion, so let's see what the .:|WD|:. rating of it will be.

Pre-thoughts

I honestly haven't played danny1687's games before, so this will be my first impression of his game making skills. Most of danny's games on the 1st page are platformers, so apparently this is his favorite type. No storyline was given, but when I look at the first screen and the name, I get the feeling that this will be a dark, dreary, and epic game- epic, though, only if it's good.

After-thoughts

Yep, it's time for the after-thoughts. The main part of the review. Well, I'll start off by saying that I *hate* where the ad is. I always move my mouse there and then I have to reload the game. Anyways, this game was a short minigame with a semi-complex design and good scenery. It's called Spiral of Doom because, obviously, it spiral out from where you start, adding enemies that are or aren't in your way. The ones that aren't are Archies, with a small hole for them to shoot you with that is one block wide.

That brings me to enemy placement, which was actually pretty darn good. Ninjas were in cramped hallways where they could throw an unavoidable ninja spike, Snarleys were in the same amount of space so they could "flame" you, and Archies were where you couldn't get to them. With Archies, you had to sacrifice your torch for a shield to block the arrows, then wall-climb all the way up to the next hallway.

Action sequences were good, and not only enemy-generated. There was a short segment in which hard to see crushers would have to be avoided, followed by cl`osers (Geoff really needs to get rid of that censor) that you have to run through. That could've been improved, though, if the they were farther apart. Action sequences were pretty much constant, though not as good as in other games I've played.

As for puzzles, well like many other games, there were no puzzles. That really would've made the game, but instead, broke it. Not beyond repair, but still broke it. Traps were minimal but there were a few, like a hard to avoid lava pit (or would it be magma, as this is under the ground?) and the crushers- which you don't see until it's too late. The cl`osers, although technically they were, I wouldn't consider a trap because you see them, hear them, and they're so close it's easy to get under them.

Onto the next subject, which will be scenery. Scenery in Spiral of Doom was really good, with a cool pattern that is consistent during the course of the entire game. It keeps the overall mood at dark and adventurous (not as much dreary as I thought it would be), and has a cool beginning with lava put in place more for scenery and to trick you that you don't have a torch, than to drain your health. This game would've been broken beyond repair if there wasn't good scenery in it, so danny(that number I keep seeing) did a good job with the scenery. Hmm... I don't know what else to say so I guess it's time for the ratings!

Any Last Words: All-in-all, Spiral of Doom is pretty good minigame but wasn't very astonishing. Length would've improved this game, as well as some power-ups. Feature-worthy? No, but it does show promise. Everything considered, I think it deserves a total of a little more than 3/6.
