Molten is a game created by blastoiselatias

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my 62nd review, which is also my editor application review for the new system in case you haven't checked it out yet, and today I'll be reviewing Molten by blastoiselatias. Blastoiselatias is well known for making some great, feature worthy games, in a variety of different creators, but he is well known for some great platform games, which is what Molten is. Blastoiselatias has started to go a bit off game making lately, but I'm still expecting a great game from a Sploder legend.

Review

Molten is a puzzling platform game in which there are many different challenges where you mainly have to try and avoid falling in the lava. It has some fantastic scenery that is visually appealing and suits this game well. There is absolutely no lag whatsoever for me in Molten, however it was in 8 bit, which I feel is unnecessary, mainly because it didn't need to be in 8 bit because of the fact that there is probably only around 500 objects per level, so I was a bit disappointed it wasn't just normal graphics. A storyline also would have been preferable. There was a bit of a story which included the occasional one or two comments, but I'd have like to seen a proper story. Despite the negatives though, everything seemed to be placed fine. There were also some pretty challenging puzzles, but, they were unoriginal, apart from one, and have been seen plenty of times before, so blastoiselatias could have tried to discover some of his own puzzles or possibly even try to make the puzzles he used a bit less obvious.

Molten is a fun game to play. Although it isn't the most action packed game, there were no interruptions and you didn't need to keep stopping, so you can easily get on with the game. Molten is also challenging and there are many difficult ways in which you have to try and avoid falling in to the lava. There are some times where you have to try and jump from one block to another, and there were also some times where you have to make sure you don't fall from failing to avoid the weak blocks, so it was great to see a good variety. However, I was disappointed at the overuse of the lives. There were far too many lives earlier one in the game and there was a point where I even had four lives and there was a chance to pick up another, but unfortunately, I had the maximum amount of lives, so I couldn't pick it up. Personally, I think the lives should have been spread out a bit more. Later on though, I actually lost, which kind of made up for the massive amount of lives placed in earlier on. Also, Molten is a very creative and original game. Most games are just one massive building where you have to avoid a load of enemies and collect keys, but in Molten, you go in to many different buildings and also outside, avoid lava and hit switches and collect weapons such as grenades, in order to make things get out of the way, as well as collecting keys.

Positives:

- An enjoyable game to play for a quarter of an hour

- Creative and original; different to most platform games

- A challenging game which will take time to complete

Negatives:

- Overuse of number of lives placed earlier on

- Puzzles that are too obvious and are unoriginal

- Not a decent enough of storyline

Ratings (Out of five):

Challenge: ____/_____

Creativity: _____/_____

Fun: _____/_____

Game play: ___/_____

Overall, this game deserves a 4/5. I think that this game is certainly worth a feature, mainly because of the creativity and how fun this game is. It deserves a lot more views than it currently has, and I recommend that you try it if you haven't done so yet, and I wouldn't mind playing a sequel.
