Dreamscape is a game created by anderzoonzim

Hi guys, creatingames here, with a slightly different review than usual from me. As EGD is in need of getting its reviews done, I decided to help out by deciding to review a game. I have chosen Dreamscape, a 3D game made by anderzoonzim, after I decided I thought it'd be the best game for me to review after trying out all the EGD games.

I usually don't get too excited for 3D games as it is probably one of my least favourite creators. However, I was actually impressed by this game. I had an enjoyable time playing this game, and I was able to get up to level five out of six levels, which I think is pretty good, considering I normally struggle to even get out the first level of a 3D game.

As EGD is a contest where the winning game ends up getting a place in the epic game library, I'm going to end up with a conclusion on whether or not I believe this game is EGL worthy. An EGL game has basically got to be epic of course, and to define epic, I'd say challenge, creativity and a game that generally makes you go wow. That's what I'm mainly going to be looking at in this review.

I'm going to kick start the review by talking about the challenge. I quite liked the challenge in Dreamscape. Most games usually have loads of challenge through out the whole game, which disappoints me, as I actually want to get far in a game. Instead, I prefer levels to get harder and harder, which is what I got in Dreamscape. Each level had more enemies and less health each time, which is what made the game challenging really.

Next off, the creativity. This game isn't really anything special to be honest. It's basically just avoiding enemies to reach keys. It did kind of repeat that through out the whole game, which disappointed me, as I would have liked to see something more special for a game entered in Sploder's biggest game contest. I was intrigued by the scenery though. It looked interesting, even though I didn't really understand what was going on, as it was just a load of different tiles. But the scenery was creative, although that's all that was creative really. I would have liked to see a few puzzles or something, which would have made Dreamscape more interesting.

Dreamscape actually did make me go wow though. I usually get bored when playing 3D games, but in Dreamscape, it was action packed and it is very addicting. It makes me want to play again when I lose, unlike a lot of games. I would have been more impressed if this game was little bit more creative though.

Other things that I have to point out include having a good story. I would have liked to see a better story in Dreamscape, as I didn't have a clue what was going on apart from the fact that I had to rescue a Scientist. All the story really says is to get out of the level or something. I would have liked more of a story on why I need to rescue the scientist and where I am etc.

I also liked the enemy placement. You had to be very cautious, because if you're not careful, a load of drones might be at you or you might get killed by deadly lava. I would have liked to see more of a variety of enemies though, because it was really just drones, lava and lizardmen.

Overall: 4/5

I'm now going to talk about whether I think Dreamscape is feature worthy and EGL worthy. First off, feature worthy. I would say yes. It has challenge, good enemy placement and some creativity, and I could compare it well to other featured 3D games.

I would say that Dreamscape is quite far off being EGL worthy though. Really, there has to be no flaws for a EGL worthy game, but I picked out a load of flaws as mentioned in the review. A few of the main ones were that it could have been more creative, which is what an EGL game needs really, and a bit of a story to it.

Altogether, I was impressed with Dreamscape. I think anderzoomzim has done a good job, and I never realised he had good talent with game making. I would like to see a few more 3D games from anderzoomzim in the future.
