Journey To Sacrifice is a game created by ov3rlord

Introduction:

Hello, and welcome to my 90th review, and today I'll be reviewing Journey To Sacrifice by overlord. This is a game that was first published one or two months back, and I remember playing it from before. This time round, however, he has neatened up the game a bit with some scenery, which I actually quite like the look of to be honest, especially in comparison to before when the game was just plain. Anyway, seeing as I wanted to review a game because there have been a HUGE lack of reviews lately, I decided to review this game seeing as it seems to be a bit of a 'hot' game at the minute now it's been boosted. Now onto the review.

Review:

Let me start off by saying that this game in my opinion hasn't really been very well designed. It's almost as if ov3rlord didn't actually test it because it's so sloppy. Some enemies just seem to walk into lava by themselves, and on top of this some of them are really annoying to get past. For example, on the start of level 2, the Archie just kicks you in the lava and it's so frustrating to get past. If you're going to place an Archie in a game, at least keep it separate away from the player so it just shoots you. That's how I like to see it anyway, because their kicks are so annoying I don't want to come into contact with them. I must say though that I did in fact like the variety of enemies in this game. I can think of a few off the top of my head and I did play this game a couple of hours ago now, but I still have a pretty good memory of what it was all about in my mind. Skellies, Archies, Thors and I'm sure there was a few more. But if they were placed in much better, less sloppy positions then that'd be great. Also another thing I really disliked about the enemy placement was there was quite a few in the game that you can just land on, making the enemy pointless because when you first jump on them they stay still for a couple of seconds then that gives you enough time to kill them without them even hurting you.

This game seriously had some of the most over used puzzles in it. It mainly featured the whip puzzle to begin with where you use your whip to reach out across and destroy a sandblock. This I've seen many times before and it's just pointless because we all know how to do it and it's honestly nothing special whatsoever. It pretty much just wastes time really because there's no point in it. On top of this, this puzzle was used about ten times in the game. I don't get it, why would you want to repeat one of the most unoriginal puzzles on the site over and over again. It seems very pointless to me. At least ov3rlord provided the player with multiple whips though because for me, one of the most annoying things is when your power up runs out then you just lose the game. However, just because this happened with the whip, doesn't mean it didn't happen with anything else. In level 3, I found that the mace just ran out on me simply because there were multiple cinderblocks to destroy using just one mace. I believe you get about 15-20 swings using this weapon, and when there is ten blocks for the same mace, it really is frustrating, especially seeing as the cinderblocks are in awkward positions surrounded by kicking archie's making it very difficult to destroy the actual block each time.

There were actually two positive aspects about this game though. 1) being the action, and 2) being the scenery. Let's start off with the action. Generally, I did have quite a fun time playing this game. It was entertaining, lots of enemies and just generally fun to play. But I must say that this game is just full of overused stuff, so that stop me being interested in the game after a little while. Also, the scenery, which is ov3rlord's new addition to the game, so I had to cover it at some point, I actually quite liked it. It featured a range of different wall tiles and it made the game look pretty neat. I'd just say that it'd be better if there were actually a few decorations in there apart from just tiles, for example statues, but apart from that the scenery was pretty good.

Ratings (Out of five):

Action: ___/_____

Gameplay: __/_____

Placement: __/_____

Puzzles: _/_____

Scenery: ____/_____

Conclusion:

Overall, this game get's a 2.5/5. This really isn't too bad of a game, just very sloppy in my opinion, over used stuff, basically nothing new to it. Nowhere near feature worthy for me, as it'd need to be more creative and much better made. However, it was quite fun to play and had some nice scenery to it. I'd say you might as well play the game, but don't expect too much from it.
