Review #96 - 'Decay' By Cyangaming!
Decay is a game created by cyangaming
Introduction:
Hello, and welcome to my 96th review, and today, I will be reviewing Decay by cyangaming, or as most of you would know him as on the forums, guezzwafflez. I have played a few of his games on his old account before, cian009, and I know that he is a pretty good game maker. Although he may not be the best and might not have many features under his belt, I have seen some decent games from him before. However, shooter is a creator I've never played from cyangaming before, so I was interested to see how this would turn out. My expectations going into this game was a shooter that was decent but nothing special.
Review:
Decay is basically your very typical type of ship shooter game on Sploder. It's pretty much going around killing spider keys and hitting switches to help make your way to the crystal. Decay is pretty much a minigame, it'd take about 3 minutes to complete, but in order for it to be a great game, in my opinion it could do with being a little bit longer. For me, Decay is just too cramped, and the shortness of the game and the small map highly suggests to me that this game has been rushed. Decay reuses the usual sort of things you see in any other shooter games on Sploder. I constantly came across puzzles and action sequences which are pretty much the same as in other games, so there is nothing about Decay that makes it stand out among others.
The placement in Decay is pretty good. I experienced very few glitching and health is placed only when it is needed. There isn't an overdose of health in this game, neither is it too hard to complete, so I think the challenge in this game is just about right. The game starts off intense and challenging, so it can be frustrating to get through, and this for me is a downfall because in a way the start of the game is the hardest, the rest of the game is kind of based on not making a mistake rather than keeping hold of health. I'd say the moving about the map of keys from bombs and nitro's is a little off putting because it can put the spider key in awkward positions, but this is the only sort of glitching I experienced in the game.
I really liked cyangaming's style of scenery in this game. He generally used poly's to make this game look colourful and he made some interesting designs with them. It was nothing too complex but it worked off well and it makes the game look better than just a boring old template. On top of this, the thumbnail is impressive. The amount of detail in it for a shooter is pretty good and it also uses some pretty basic colours using poly's which again, makes it look good. This thumbnail is a really good way of pulling views for a shooter. I remain with no idea why on Earth this game is called Decay though, it kind of makes no sense. But nevertheless, some good scenery with a great thumbnail.
For me, Decay is fairly action packed right the way through although it did have a few little stumps. There is a bit of acid I think which slows the game down, and using bombs to hit spider keys gets repetitive and boring. Apart from that, a lot of enemies to keep the player entertained and because this game is pretty small, there isn't much lag which makes it run smoothly. I don't find this game incredibly addicting to be honest, but I think it's more of a one-two attempt sort of game seeing as it's quite small. Because of the lack of creativity and the boring puzzles, I think this stopped the game from being addicting. The spider key battles in Decay are fairly interesting, each of them have a little bit of difference to them rather than it being just a standard boss, but they are way too cramped.
Ratings (Out of five):
Conclusion:
In conclusion, Decay has earned a fairly average, 2.5/5. This game has some nice scenery, it is a fun mini-game and generally well made. However, in my opinion, is still a little off being feature worthy, although I doubt cyangaming was aiming for that considering the size of the game. For it to be feature worthy, first it would have to be a bit longer, I think it needs much more creativity, and needs to be much more spaced out with less glitching. Cyangaming has got the potential there to be making feature worthy shooters in the future. Anyway, this game is pretty decent, and I don't see why not check it out.
