A Game By One Of The Most Underated Game Makers... [P.E.G Studios]
OMG, it is a review my Deathleaf, after so long! Yes I have finally decided to make a review. Mostly because I miss how good I used to be and secondly I have my own Gaming Sponsorship and I've decided to make a review on Elroysice's game Vortex: Beyond the Grave, And because he is Sponsored by me ;)
Okay so now, I have played many of Elroysice's games and the most of them I enjoy, he has his fair share of features and rated one of the most under-rated game makers on Sploder. So I was really looking forward to this game that he has made in the 2-3 hour barrier which he claims he made this game in.
The thumbnail, it honestly doesn't catch my eye, and doesn't seem to be creative but just a plain circle, However I think the name made it back as I thought that the name was a catchy and "COOl" if you would say it like that.
I like the fact that the scenery in this game is black/grey kind of color which is what you would think of at a grave, (as in the title) This game has a nice style and it's nice and close-ish that you are sort of forced to kill everything in front of you, but in saying that there are many ways that I have found that can bypass that where I don't need to kill all that is required ect.
Vortex: Beyond the Grave has that feeling of the old game 'Chain Reaction' Which I quite like, however I feel that in some places it was used in a useless manner, but on the other hand Elroysice has made a trap using this, which I did get killed by the first time round.
Another thing that I do enjoy about Vortex: Beyond the Grave was that it isn't a game that you can just play once and win the first time, this is the kind of game where you actually need to die to find out how to get passed the next section.
I did see that Elroysice has used a few puzzles but not many, but I personally like the one in the beginning mainly because I came up with it (:P, well at least I think I did) Which the puzzle is hard to figure out but since I "made it" It was fairly simple.
The only problem about games that you have to die over and over again to figure out the parts, is that after a while it gets annoying and a member just doesn't feel like playing the game at all, and I do feel that this is one problem that Elroysice might face with the game, resulting in comments from MainSite noobs flaming the game saying it's terrible but I actually enjoyed this game. (But I guess that's me)
One thing for sure is that Elroysice deferentially knows how to make a good game really fast. I love how Vortex: Beyond the Grave you need to actually think, there is a storyline during the game, but once I'm in game mode I don't focus on those things. I enjoy that you have to back track, think fast and use your radar at all times to know what lays ahead. And if you don't, it's simple, 'YOU DIE'.
I never really got to far in the game, I think I got around 60 to 70% of the game. I just think that the problems in this game were that Elroysice has rushed making this game, I mean making a game in 2-3 hours and it's this big. I think Elroysice had a brainstorm of ideas and just threw all of his ideas into the creator hoping to make something epic, the running out of ideas and falling short, then getting lazy and creating small rooms/chambers to create an effect, but wasn't effective as you could see the ideas running on a low.
This was a very interesting game, nothing new but still very enjoyable. The fact that Elroysice has made this game so fast and so well in the time he managed to do it in is impressive and shows that he really is an underrated member. If anything else I think I'll feature this game right now. The puzzles and traps where average and there was a couple of useless obstacles in the game if I could say that, but nevertheless I think the pro's outwit the con's in this game.
Out of 5
Things you can do to improve your game
For starters work on the game a little longer. HAHA you can make such epic games if you put the ~time~ and ~effort~ into making the games. But other then that you just need to make sure that you don't add in useless obstacles and don't over-do the [die to discover] part of the game and I think this game would be pretty awesome. Well more awesome then the average feature ;)
