Introduction

Hey guys, Demonxz95 here and for my second EGD 9 review today, I'll be reviewing the first chapter of the Whispers of the Godless series by Troyio. Sadly, he could only make one chapter. If he could make all of them, I would be reviewing them all in this one review page. Troyio is one of the more well known game makers on the site, probably best known for Cytheria, one of only two Arcade games in the EGL, with the other being Masenko Quest 2 by Splatter. If only One Hit Kevin was in it, oh well... I can dream, can't I?

Review

I'm expecting the entire series to be an epic adventure, seeing as how this is being made by Troyio. We don't exactly have a full storyline yet, so I won't be judging that. The storyline elements we do currently have though is fantastic. For example, via flashback, you will go through locations seen in previous stages. I've done this before in Dr. Lavarch's Revenge Part 1 but not via flashback. I don't think Troy has played that before though,

The first thing I noticed was the custom textures forming what's gonna be the closest thing to a Snow World we're probably ever going to get. I do wish there was a Snow World in the creator but Geoff is currently working on a new creator, and right now I'd rather have that than Snow World. This however is good enough for now.

Speaking of scenery, apart from the custom textures on the land masses, the actual scenery itself is almost all default and sadly lacking a slight bit but the custom textures do make up for that. This may I remind you is a WIP so I reckon he will add more in the future.

The actual gameplay mostly revolves around story elements right now, which makes for a neat introduction to the game. I like how custom textures are used to make actual buildings and such in the game instead of just going "SCENERY" and "BUILDING" adding a nice touch to the locations in the game. Combat so far is not a huge part of the game. Apart from a single Big Baddie fight in 1-2, it takes until 1-8 to see actual combat. Speaking of combat, I found an exploitation with one of the big baddie fights in 1-8, Troy, if you want me to tell you, comment here and I'll tell you via PM on the forums. The game also contains no puzzles as of yet. These problems I can excuse though seeing as how this is Chapter 1 and this is supposed to be an introduction to the game and it's a WIP. I'm sure we'll see more of these in future chapters.

In 1-8, we see the gimmick that everyone knows, the "avoid the flowers gimmick" but I don't care if its been done, it's pretty much a staple with professional Arcade game makers. Why I bring this up is because of a bit of flawed placement. In the third section, the platform is too close to the ground and if you jump, you will get hit by a baddie, and you will activate one of the flowers you want to avoid. Troy, if you're reading this, I think you should raise the platform and the baddies up a block or two.

Now, I'm actually not going to rate this because it's a WIP but so far, it's looking GREAT!!! I'm very hyped for this Troy. Once all the chapters come out, I will review them all in a single review page and I might end up deleting this one.

Sorry for the abrupt ending but that's it for the review, Demonxz95 out!
