Pre-thoughts

How's it going Sploder? This is Dudki (ORLY?) with a brand new review. I've been searching for a game to review for quite some time now, and in my search of good games, I stumbled upon Streets On My Own. Now, this game has been made by a user named chlorede, which you may or may not have heard of, and I thought I might as well make a review of the game. Why, you may ask? Let's find out.

The thumbnail of this game, doesn't give me an impression of streets, but rather, a cave of some sort. The title is a lie. Anyway, I must admit that the thumbnail of this game is a bit bland. I like the tile choice, but it looks like the game doesn't contain much scenery, which I really like. But you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, and that's why I chose to try this game anyways.

Review

Streets On My Own. is a pretty good game, which can be both challenging, fun and annoying at times. The overall progress of the game was pretty random in my opinion. What I mean by this is that you start at one place, and then the next level is a completely different theme and style of game. You don't get much context as to what is happening in this game, since the storyline is a minor part of this game. The game does switch between different types of gameplay, from puzzle-solving to action. I really liked this development since it makes the game less dull and more exciting to play.

This wasn't a puzzle game, but some of the levels did contain a few puzzles to keep the game interesting, and as I said before, the game switched a lot between different types of gameplay. The thing that I didn't like about the puzzles is that there weren't that original and hard to figure out. They have all been used before and required minimal assistance from your brain. This is a flaw since it pretty much ruins the purpose of a puzzle.

This is quite a long game, and I normally don't like when longer games have too many traps. This game didn't have so many to the point of barely being playable, but did have quite a few, which could make you ragequit and not bothering to retry. A thing that chlorede did for this game which was good, is that he kept most of the traps for the earlier levels instead of putting too many in the later ones.

The action in Streets On My Own. was above average. Some levels were filled with intense action while others were way too quiet. The amount of action that the game had was alright, but in my opinion, there could have been a bit more. Chlorede mostly used hazards like lasers and turrets, while other levels had an army of mongols wanting to swing their sword in your face. Ouch.

The environment in this game was a bit bland at times, making the game a bit boring to look at. But some levels did contain quite a lot, especially the later levels. I just wish that chlorede have made it that way the entire game, to help make the game represent the theme and the area that you were in. Some of the scenery does feel a bit rushed as well.

The placement in this game was alright. The block placement was actually quite good, the problem I had with the placement were mostly the enemies and hazards. Many enemies were placed in very tight spots which pretty much disabled their ability to move, while other enemies could just be skipped entirely. This is a flaw since most of the action can be skipped because of that.

Pros/Cons

Pros:

Gameplay: Overall, the gameplay was pretty good. The game was fun and keeps you excited.

Action: The action in this game wasn't bad, although some levels could have used a bit more love, the action was pretty good.

Traps: Chlorede layed out quite a few traps in this game, and kept most of them in the lower levels to avoid people ragequitting.

Cons:

Thumbnail: Pretty bland thumbnail, could have been made a little better, to help catch the players interest.

Puzzles: Boring and unoriginal puzzles were used in this game. They didn't add much to the game.

Scenery: Some levels did have pretty good scenery, but most didn't contain that much, which made the backgrounds seem a bit boring.

Placement: Blocks were placed well, however more time should have been spent on placing hazards perfectly.

Overall: 3/5

This game was alright. I had fun playing through it. The game was difficult and had a lot of variety in terms of gameplay. It did have flaws here and there though, so it wasn't amazingly made.

Feature-worhty?

To sum it up, I have decided to rate this review as not feature-worthy. The reason being is it did have a lot of flaws, which I think needs to be fixed before this game can make it on the featured page.

I am officially done. Thanks for your time and have a nice day. Join me next time when I review another game. What will it be? We'll see. And now, my fingers hurt, so bye.
