Game: Lectred Z Reborn

Pre-thoughts:

Lately there's been a lot of hype over the ever so popular Lectred series by the user Shadross. He has earned a good reputation and many people has enjoyed his excellent PPG's. You may or may not have heard of the Lectred Z Game Explosion, but this was where all the hype was coming from. Basically, Shadross were working hard on three seperate Lectred Z games that he chose to release, all at the same time. Among them, we find Lectred Z Reborn, which is the one I'm going to be reviewing today. What made this game interesting was the fact that it was actually the very first Lectred Z game Shadross made in the Platformer creator. So let's take a cbleep look at exactly what this game has to offer.

The first thing that stood out to me was the beautifully polished thumbnail. Judging solely from the thumbnail, you can clearly see that this game is different from your standard, everyday platformer game. The tension to detail, the tiles and colors really caught my interest, and I didn't hesitate for one moment, to play this game. Shadross made an excellent job with picking the right thumbnail for Lectred Z Reborn, but how did the overall game turn out? He may have made a brilliant thumbnail, but what good does it if the game is utterly terrible?

Review:

As it turns out, this game wasn't terrible at all. In fact, I never expected it to be. Lectred Z Reborn is a game that really stands out and shows Shadross' full potential and talent in game-making. The gameplay was very nice, and involves you exploring the vast areas of this world, while you fight off the evil Lectred forces standing in your way. Sounds thrilling? It indeed was. I loved every bit of the gameplay and it each level pits you up against something new, which causes you to stay interested and never get bored. On top of that, the game features almost full-graphics, making each level stand out, and also giving it a very unique look and feel. I really must commend Shadross for making such a great gameplay experience with Lectred Z Reborn, as it turned out much better than I imagined it would. The only real thing I didn't like as much was the storyline. Now don't get me wrong. It was good, but I was hoping for a little more. You don't really have that much dialogue in each level, and I actually expected, or at least was hoping for more.

One thing that made this game so good, was the amount of action. Shadross adds a challenge to the game, only providing the player with one life for the entire game, as well as making him go up against many different types of enemies. There were a lot of variety in them, going all the way from ninja's and big bad FireTrolls. I must admit, some areas could be a pain in the butt with the huge amounts of stronger enemies, but you did have power-ups and health to help you survive, which was good.

Lectred Z Reborn was definitely not a puzzle-game. In fact, I don't recall seeing a single "actual" puzzle in the game. Shadross may have done this deliberately to be able to focus more on other aspects of the game, and to be honest, I didn't find the lag of puzzles bad in any way, considering the entire game is actually quite puzzling in general. Yes, in pretty much every single level you will have explore the large levels, trying to find out where to go next. These objectives takes some time to find and reach, thus making up for the lag of puzzles in Lectred Z Reborn.

Traps? What traps? I saw no traps in Lectred Z Reborn and I can't say I'm dissapointed about that in any way. On the contrary, I don't feel traps should be present in a game like this. For me, traps are more suiting in shorter, generally one-leveled games. Lectred Z Reborn was an RPG game and therefore, if a player happened to run into a trap after getting so far into the game, I think Shadross would recieve some displeased commenters on his game. We don't want that now, don't we? I think staying away from traps in a game like this was a wise choice, and I'm glad to know Shadross chose not to do it.

Alright, power-ups. The game haz 'em. In fact, too many I'd have to say. At least in the later levels. I realize with the amount of enemies chasing you in each level you'll need at least some medkits every now and then to keep you nice and fresh right? That being said, I wouldn't mind the amount of health packs being lowered a bit. I guess it allows the less experienced players to have a change at this game, and therefore I think Shadross have done this on purpose. Therefore, I won't judge this too hard, but the game still could get a bit too easy for my liking.

It's time to move on to the visuals. The scenery and look of this entire game was top notch, I have to admit that. As I stated earlier, the game features almost full-graphics, all done by Shadross himself, and they really stand out. He made the perfect looking enemies and tiles for Lectred Z Reborn, creating the specific look that he wanted, and also making the game stand out from most other platformer games on the site. There's really nothing else I can say about it. I was amazed at the tension to detail the game had, and it was part of what made me stick around and play further.

Now lastly, I would like to talk a little bit about the placement of Lectred Z Reborn. It was pretty good, but I had a few problems with it. Many levels used ramp-tiles, and these could get you stuck between walls. I found this quite annoying, and it forced me to be very careful of how I moved, and if I wasn't paying attention, I could have gotten stuck, being forced to restart. This was a flaw, and could have been fixed, simply by adding a little less ramp-tiles. Other than that, I found the placement pretty much perfect, and it was done well.

Pros/Cons:

Pros:

Thumbnail: The game had an amazing thumbnail to represent it, which improves the chance of people playing it.

Gameplay: As stated before, the gameplay was great, and featured something different for each level, making the player want to continue.

Action: Very thrilling game indeed. A lot of action, and a lot of epic fighting sequences.

Puzzles: Although the game didn't contain any puzzles, I found the game very puzzling, which made up for it.

Traps: I saw no traps in this game whatsoever, but it was good for this game. Adding traps would actually kind of ruin it.

Scenery: Astonishing scenery. Lots of graphic work made this game very nice looking at, and added a certain "uniqueness" to the game.

Cons:

Power-Ups: I found the amount of power-ups (mainly the medkits) a little to high. Reducing them would have added a little more challenge to the game.

Placement: Although most of the placement was good, I found some of the blocks placed badly, causing you to either be stuck of fall through a wall if you wasn't careful enough.

Ratings:

Gameplay: 5/5

Difficulty: 4.1/5

Action: 4.6/5

Puzzles: 3.2/5

Traps: 5/5

Scenery: 5/5

Placement: 3.4/5

Creativity: 4/5

Overall: 4.2/5

Overall, this game rounds up to a rating of 4.2/5. It was a really fun gaming experience, with minor flaws and amazing visuals and gameplay, this game is bound to keep you interested the entire time. Anyone with an interest in platformer games, should give this game a go.

Feature-worthy?

I would say so yes. Reasons are as stated above, fun game, awesome scenery, introduces a really unique style and it's so developed throughout. Nice work Shadross. The Lectred Z series really are a series which should be played.
