Betrayed is a game created by mat7772

It has been far too long since I've written a review. I haven't been saving enough time for them, so as I'm sitting here on Christmas vacation I think to myself, "Why not make a review to prove my existence?"

INTRODUCTION

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is Mat's first featured game. I haven't played many games by Mat. In fact, I think I haven't played any of them. I had no idea what to expect when I played this game. That's why I believe it's important to see if this game was worthy of a feature. This is also my first Shooter review, so it will be a learning experience for me.

GAMEPLAY

Who wants impossible games? I sure don't. To be honest, I haven't played many shooters that I can get far into and actually enjoy. The difficulty is placed at such a level that it's entirely possible but requires a certain amount of thought before you plan your next move. It is a very action-packed game where nowhere is safe; as soon as you escape your first danger you are tossed into another round of fright.

I don't want to get too detailed on the puzzles. There are a few but they are simple yet unique such as using the Wingman to open doors for you and such. I also like how Mat puts the small health pieces in the lava, because by the time you're out of the lava you end up with less health than you began with. It's kind of like an illusion. I think putting the machine gunners on top of the rocket launchers was a good choice to up the challenge/creativity a bit.

PLACEMENTS

I talked about this a little bit in the previous paragraph, but the health-in-lava deception was a pretty good choice. Health placement was pretty epic, with it given to you after a life or death situation. I really hated how the Wingman would run into you and block your path in some narrow passageways, so maybe these could have been a bit wider. In addition to this, the Wingman would get distracted with fighting enemies along the way, but this isn't the creator's fault. Enemy placement was meh, it wasn't anything special but it wasn't annoying. All in all, placement was good.

SCENERY

What? Scenery in a Shooter? Of course. Instead of having simple squares, even obstacles look cool. SwitchPoly's are in the shapes of stars and other objects and even areas you can't reach are decorated. Good scenery is important in a shooter or else it appears bland and boring. Take out all that and this game isn't as good. It looks cool, and that gets some points from me.

SCOREBOARD

Gameplay: 4/5 Short & simple... Not too hard.

Puzzles: 3/5 Unique but easy. Gets points for creativity.

Placements: 3/5 Nothing too special, but good enough to get a nice positive score.

Action: 4/5: Escaping one danger lands you into the next.

OVERALL: 3.5/5

IN THE END

This game didn't revolutionize anything, but is good at what it does. I have a feeling Mat focused on action rather than puzzles, which isn't completely a bad thing. A few annoying things here and there with an interesting story. In the end, Betrayed deserved its feature, but barely.

P.S. I think I'll be sticking to Plats and PPG's, shooters are a bit hard for me to review. :P
