Pre-Thoughts

Yo, sploder. It's me, EpicOrange789, and I'm going to be reviewing again for all of you people of sploder. If you don't already know, the sploder forums hold a game making contest known as EGD (Epic Game Drop). Well, all or at least most of the entries have to be reviewed, just like last year. Since it was open on the list of games needing to be reviewed, I have decided to review Rebuild by Dudki. Dudki is a great game maker and a great friend in my opinion. Ever since he got his first feature, he's been coming back and grasping many of them. There's a lot to expect from Dudki. Since Rebuild is an RPG, I expect a decent amount of action, an great adventure to embark on, a great story line, and just an amazing game all together. Rebuild didn't manage to build itself high enough to get into the top 3 platformer games, nor the Best Of The Rest. Is there any reasoning for this? We shall find out as soon as I rebuild my stomach.

Thumbnail

The thumbnail didn't manage to catch my eye in any way. It was pretty bland and didn't really show how great Rebuild was actually going to be. I know, I know. Don't judge a book by it's cove. But honestly, the only true reason (well, the only 2 true reasons) of why I played this game were the fact that the hyperlink was on the forums at the time where I started playing through most of the EGD games, and that it was by dudki (but seriously, his RPG's are really good). The thumbnail honestly came as a shock to me; it was nothing too special. Let's just hope that the scenery is better.

Game-Play

Rebuild was far from terrible, but maybe the reason that it didn't get any awards for EGD (apart from possibly getting a feature) is because other games are just better than Rebuild. I believe that Rebuild had a lot of intense action involved which produced excitement, which I enjoyed a lot. In each level it felt like it was getting much more challenging as I progressed through the game. The game was very challenging, which I liked about it. Dudki avoided the use of too many puzzles and unforgivable traps in Rebuild; we don't want an RPG to turn into a straight forward overrated puzzle platformer really. It felt like the game was more enjoyable with those included puzzles. There were just a few (maybe 1 or 2) scattered around in almost every level. I truly did enjoy the adventure in the game. You get to explore through quite a few different places to complete your objective of rebuilding (or at least starting to rebuild) Flintwood, your home town. Most of the levels in the game weren't dull at all.

Scenery

I rather enjoyed the scenery, but I'd like to see what everything was like before Flintwood was completely destroyed. I bet it would have looked completely fabulous: a great place to live in. Anyway, let's forget about that, the main objective in this paragraph is to talk about the actual scenery that's in the game. I found the scenery quite enjoyable to look at. Especially in the later levels. Every single level's scenery fit in well with the story and the whole point of the level all together. The rocky peak mountains, the destruction of Flintwood, the Volcanoth Prison, all including a great scenery which was pleasant to look at. My favourite? Probably the scenery in the Volcanoth Prison. So overall, the scenery was far from boring.

Power-Ups

There was a decent amount of health power-ups scattered around the game, definitely when they're needed. They were paced in the correct places, and just when you needed them as well. I've seen games with hardly any health power-ups, and games with too many health power ups. This game has enough power ups to get you right through to the end of the game (unless you bleep at gaming) and not too much that it makes it way too easy. In Rebuild, all of the weapons used in side-quests are great to use if you want to get through the game easier. Side-quests are great things to have in RPG's, as the weapons or power-ups you get are or should be really helpful in the game, like they're really helpful in Rebuild.

Pros:

Scenery

Game-Play

Story-line

Power-ups and weapons

Placements of power-ups and weapons

Creativity

Cons:

Puzzles & Traps (but then again, it's an RPG)

Conclusion

So, I've pretty much found out that the only one reason that Rebuild didn't get any true glory in EGD 7 was because the other games that got in the top 3 platformers & Best of the Rest were better than Rebuild. Yes, I did play through Rebuild and managed to get to level 8, and I did end up getting to level 8, but I found it feature worthy, but not really EGL worthy, when others could possibly be so. It wasn't the best EGD game out there, but it was feature worthy indeed.

Thank you for reading my review of Rebuild. Have a good day, everyone!
