Pre-Thoughts

'Gamefest': a game making competition to kick-start the new year. This simple forum competition has been the reasoning of many new, creative games. I was originally going to enter Gamefest until I realised I can't keep to a deadline... Anyway, there has been many different games from gamefest published, and some even featured. Duet is one of those games. Duet was made by shibusvinayak, an unknown MS member, yet a relatively friendly forum member. However, I've never managed to play any of his games (yes, I haven't played Park To The Mark because I think that there are enough parking games on sploder, but that's a rant for another day). But by the looks of things, he's a fan of the PPG creator, and it seems as though his games are rather professional looking at their thumbnails. Speaking of thumbnails, I'm not going to lie that Duet's thumbnail isn't really the best: It's dark, doesn't look like much is going on at all. But that doesn't determine the qualities of the game. Unless you're sceptile, then the thumbnail means a lot. Well not really, people would just view the game anyway, even if it was an appalling-

What am I doing here again?

Review

Duet introduces a nice, simplistic concept of which you rotate in a circle avoiding objects. It seems so simple, yet it's never been done before in a game like this. Surprising. Avoiding objects seems really boring, so what's so great about it? There are 2 balls rotating around avoiding objects! Wait, that doesn't seem very fascinating? Well what if I told you it introduces quite a few new puzzles? Not only does it introduce new puzzles, but it requires quick thinking when traveling through each level which keeps a game entertaining and keeps the player happy the whole way through. Well life can't always be happy: IT'S ANNOYING AS F-

As already mentioned, this game seems really simple. And if you're not an idiot who just keeps his/her finger on the arrow key and watch the 2 balls spin around as a new form of excitement, ignoring a fact that they're playing a game, you will realise that it actually starts off incredibly simple. Now, here's what I like about every game similar to this: the difficulty increases after each level you go through. Now the game isn't simple, is it? Now stop judging things by the first level. Anyway, as you go through each level, you need to be increasingly careful, yet faster, and you need to think much faster too. It's really nice to have a game like this come along every once in a while.

The scenery is normally a strong point in the vast majority of PPG games, most of them fitting the entire point of the game. Duet is one of those games like that. If it was any different, it just wouldn't really fit it with the concept of the game, mainly because the game is only focusing on the concept. Many games like this have the same scenery, which shows he's picked up on this. Nothing new and exciting, but it fits in, so it's perfectly fine.

Now, at first, I would have said that this was a very creative game, but then I took a deeper look into it. YOU'RE MOVING BALLS AROUND IN A CIRCLE. To be honest, there's nothing really special about that. Oh, but it gets more exciting! You have to avoid objects! Creativity level OVER 9000! But seriously, the puzzles were creative, but the overall concept wasn't. It was still a fun and enjoyable game that kept my attention.

I tried to be creative once. But green is not a creative colour.

Conclusion

Duet is another one of those games that focus mainly on a simple concept which is painfully addictive (until you beat it) but eventually satisfying. It isn't really the most creative game, but I enjoyed the simplicity of the concept and the improving difficulty. I think this barely sbleeped the feature worthy line, so kudos to shibuvsvinayak.

Thank you all for reading. I will see you guys next time!

P.S.: shibuvsvinayak, what's a "mahup"?
