~Pre-Thoughts~

WOO YEAH GO ARCADE CREATOR!! I mean, the arcade creator has some deeming qualities I enjoy very much and I am glad that there are some good featured games where the arcade was the creator. There are a few decent arcade game makers such as splatter and troyio. Mat7772? Well he's okay I guess. As much as I'd prefer not to review another one of Matty's game, I asked for games to review and as you'd least expect it, it was there. But it's an arcade game, so I'm contempt with it. We're reviewing Miners today. This was quite clearly made right after the Cave World update was added to the creator and Matthew over here couldn't think of anything better. What could you expect from a game based around mining? A search for gold? Trapped inside rubble and forced to struggle for a way out? No?. Nevertheless he made a game out of it which managed to be featured, so it should be good.

~Review~

So we begin with a miner awaking early in the morning (6AM to be exact, but I think he should be up earlier if he's mining) simply walking down the average beginning of an arcade game row of houses to then enter a mine where this average Joe will experience something he hasn't seen before. The gameplay for this was very nicely done; everything was in the right place, it made the game flow well and certain sequences made Miners pretty interesting. There were some areas which had quite a lot of creativity at the time of the release such as the speed run on the collapsing floor, as well as some entertaining parts which didn't take much effort at all (it takes a lot of effort to keep hold of the right arrow/d key when running from bombs.) However, this game had the obligatory training session that all arcade games had at that time which was pretty annoying. However, the sequences in that were quite nice to see. Ahead of this training session we can see some pretty fast paced sections, some intense battles and most of which flowed well with the storyline (though I wouldn't bet that an average miner would go through this on a daily basis, but of course your character is never a normal person.)

Mattyboy7772 over here recently reviewed one of my arcade games (A War Story) and picked the story like the remains of a chicken leg (or any other food on a bone you prefer to eat at any given time.) So naturally I'm going to do the same thing (he also pretty much said he wanted me to do that in his review). First of all, we have a miner setting off for work. Now, a miner wouldn't be able to find work on a normal day as soon as he enters the mine, surely it takes a lot of work to be able to even get coal. Additionally, from what I've seen the miners job it pretty intense, so why the bloody hell would you wander off out of the mining site just because you've seen something unusual? You must be pretty stupid to do that. But you know, this is sploder; the protagonists are never normal people.

I feel like I'm trying too hard with this. Ah well, I'm not being too serious with it anyway. In reality, the storyline is quite interesting to follow throughout the game (but I don't know what happened at the end, my laptop crashed). It worked very well, especially considering it was just after the release of Cave World (I could have come up with a better idea than the one this Australian kid has made).

The scenery for Miners was very fitting for the game. Considering the game was made almost entirely with the cave world, it doesn't really take much to have the game fitting for the theme of miners, so it doesn't seem like Princess Matty has put much effort into it. However, it was most certainly appealing. In some areas, the scenery helped with the gameplay. And when I say in some areas, I mean only the areas with the lava that shoots fireballs at you. That is literally the only way the scenery could help you in Miners (or at least what I saw. Again, my laptop crashed so I only got to the beginning of level 6.) At this point, the textures weren't available, so there wasn't much else you could do with the scenery, but at least it was good for that time.

Pros:

Gameplay

Scenery

Story

Action

Difficulty

Cons:

Thumbnail (well, they're never really any good)

The Training Session (just the idea of it, the sequences were all good)

~Conclusion~

Okay so the title may be a little miss-leading, this arcade game is actually really good. It might not be good enough for the EGL, but it definitely deserved its feature. So obviously this is my last review of the year, so to everyone, happy new year!
