Maze-hem is a game created by noahsue

You find Maze-hem, an old classic shooter by the user noahsue. I personally didn't know the guy/girl but if you joined back in the '08/'09 area and are still around you'll probably remember him/her. I'm guessing it's a he. Sorry if you're a girl :/ lol. Anyway, onto the review!

Why am I reviewing a game from so far back? Well, I wanted to review a shooter, and what better than to pick on from a while ago?

(Eh, who am I kidding. I wanted the first review on the first featured game. That's right, the first!)

(According to an old comment this is from the new featured list since the old one glitched up)

(This is also a quick link to the game for all the lazy people lmao)

(There sure are a lot of brackets/parenthesis here amirite)

Seeing as this game was made early '09 I wasn't expecting too big of a game, and more of a simple game that would've gotten a feature then but maybe not today.

I was wrong.

(Oh by the way the mainsite logged me out twice so this could be improved on...)

Gameplay

Maze-hem was the kind of shooter that would've been awe-inspiring in it's time but now is unnoticed, apart from the fact that it is the first featured game. The main goal of Maze-hem is to collect the total amount of crystals while trying to survive. You'll need speed, smarts and MAD SKILLS BRUTHA to be able to beat Maze-hem, and from the amount of names on the scoreboard (1) and the difficulty rating (10) that seemed near impossible for me. After maybe 30 or so attempts the furtherest I got was 15/19 crystals, and the only reason I couldn't go further was because of the teleporter glitching me out of the playfield :/ What a shame. It is still possible, seeing as there is the name on the scoreboard.

Enemy/Hazard Placement

What?! A new category?! This can't be!

Seeing as my last review was a PPG which included aesthetics and design (which probably wasn't available in the 2009 version of the shooter) I have to change the categories a little bit. No biggie.

The enemy/hazard placement was great to be honest, and although I'm not typically the best at shooters I quite liked it in Maze-hem. It was a lot of chaos and mayhem (the name was a play-on-words if you didn't get it already lmao). The excessive usage of hazards at the very beginning wasn't completely unnecessary (or according to an early comment "zuper hard!"), it was to provide a challenge for the player, and if you're a pro like the guy on the scoreboard Maze-hem shouldn't be too difficult. For me, it was a toootally different story lmao.

Item Placement

Another new category to judge. Ooooh so exciting ;)

Noahsue provided you with an instant atomic boost at the start, which is incredibly helpful seeing as without it I'd've been dead before I realized what was going on xD As I have probably stated before, the goal for Maze-hem was to collect all 19 crystals, whilst fighting of the cannons and turrets spread across the level. Health boosts and many other helpful upgrades are hidden in the level, it's a matter of whether you will find them or not ;) The only bummer is that I wish Noahsue didn't use the large circular obstacle near the teleporter, it really ruins the game for me as it glitches me out entirely, as I said before. :/ Oh well. Other than that I think noahsue did a good job with the general placement of objects/items. Good job m8.

Puzzles

Yes, Maze-hem also includes a variety of puzzles, using the bomb-mortar-shooting thingies to manoeuvre sleeping/immobile key spiders and hidden polygons to activate doors...the majority of these are probably old puzzles that many shooter creators use today but I still found them fun to figure out. Noahsue included these puzzles probably to add to the difficulty factor, but once you figure them out it's a lot easier to play. I'm sorry, I just find it funny I'm reviewing a 5 year old game xD Puzzles are a key factor of featured shooters/robots, and that's exactly what Noahsue provided us. Anyway, there's still one more category to go, another section I vote highly in for Maze-hem...

Fun/Addictiveness

Old categories, and yes, Maze-hem was a lot of fun to play in my honest opinion. If you're an MS user who typically plays the 20 second "Mario lost his pants" games or whatever (I just made that up but there's probably gonna be a game of it somewhere) then Maze-hem may not be the game for you. If you love shooters and you're a boss at them, well, I recommend playing this if you haven't already. And I guarantee most of the shooter fans have played this already, despite the fact it's sitting all the way at the end of the features list...Maze-hem was also addictive, I myself had to find out what every corner of the map had to offer, and not just because I was writing this review ahahaha.

Pros/Cons

This dreaded section of the review....nooooooooooo

Final Notes

I think noahsue did a pretty good job with Maze-hem, making it all those years ago and getting the first featured game (on the new system for those who didn't read it previously). I enjoyed it and I will certainly revisit the game again, and if you haven't played it yet you should. PEACE AMIGOS
