The 11th Hour is a game created by lordeldar

Wassup readers and gamers, ethgamma here. As you all know, the latest Epic Game Drop has just commenced and I have to give a big shout out to everyone who's participated and helped out, even if it is just supporting your friends in the competition. Today I'm reviewing one of the platformer EGD entries, a game by the one and only Lord Fwuffypants (aka lordeldar). He's racked up 21 features on the site since his arrival and his latest is a zombie apocalyptic platformer called The 11th Hour, and I'm the main character.

11/10 review over.

In all seriousness though, the game features a full sploder user cast, like another popular featured game Masenko Quest and it's sequel, so I'm not the only sploder member to be featured in this game. I've been hyped for The 11th Hour ever since I tested the demos lordeldar sent to me, and I've been even more excited to write a review for it too. So without further ado, I present a well-deserved review for The 11th Hour.

Gameplay

The 11th Hour, as I said, is a game based around a deadly apocalypse in which the living turn into mutant zombies who crave living human flesh, as per usual. Apocalyptic games and shows have become a hit in the last few years, so I can see why lordeldar chose this for an EGD release. You're gunning down the infected mutants as they charge at you left and right, crushing them to their knees via jeep and slaying them like Michonne from the praised TV series The Walking Dead; all whilst following the in-depth plotline lordeldar took days in writing. The game itself is meant for mature audiences, featuring mild innuendo as well as older language and even classic sploder references. The style of the game is 2D RPG-styled, as you would expect from a platformer, and it is a long game so get the popcorn cooking before you click on the game link xD If you're a fan of games like Dark Days by mat7772 and even Cybergangster by everyone's favourite, bobbler, then you're sure to enjoy The 11th Hour.

Enemies and Hazards

As it is quite obvious from the first few seconds of The 11th Hour that it's the living against the rising undead, and you, I mean me, I mean...uhhh THE PLAYER is merely one of the lucky - or unlucky, depending on your view - survivors of the current apocalypse. You manage to group with "the most swagalicious thing since sliced bread", amdri, and his group as they prepare themselves for the challenging life ahead of them. As well as the undead mutants that patrol the various levels, there are also warriors from Shinigami's ninja army, another forum reference if you get it, and many more hazards spread throughout the game. The placement of the enemies does seem a little unbalanced in some areas, for example the small jeep ride on level two, but it's not a major concern. It's most likely to emphasize the fact that everyone's becoming infected around you and that the situation's quite dangerous. 'Just use the mouse pointer gun and the flesh-eating mutants are history...that is until it runs out of ammo. Then you're screwed.

(Unless you're a pro gamer like myself who can 360noscope fools all day).

Aesthetics

The design of The 11th Hour is excellent, using the latest graphic feature to create an epic feel to the levels. You transition from the hotel to the city within seconds and the way it's built works really well with the platformer. This may seem a little biased due to the fact that Fwuffypants is a good friend of mine, but Lordeldar can really make a level look genuinely haunted and abandoned, giving it an eerie feel and fitting the theme of the game perfectly. Every single user in the cast has their own custom-made graphic based of their avatar to easily identify them, which just makes the game even that much better. Admittedly, work could have been done with the background and foreground in the levels to give it a little more emphasis but it wouldn't

have made a huge difference personally. All in all, I enjoyed the theme of The 11th Hour, it just makes the game 12.7% more awesome.

Puzzles

The 11th Hour was meh when it came to puzzles. The apocalyptic game was more of a storyline/action game rather than a full out puzzle game, which made sense. Sure, there were sections where you had to follow a sequence to continue of with the game, but that itself was mainly tied in with the dialogue. I can understand that lordeldar had no intention on making this a puzzle game, judging by the large amount of dialogue throughout the game. I personally didn't mind the lack of puzzles throughout The 11th Hour, and judging by the general audience they don't mind either.

Addictiveness

Personally I found The 11th Hour a very enjoyable game, and I do constantly replay to edge myself toward the ending. It does get a little annoying when you die in the further levels and you have to start all over again, but hey, it has that unique factor that just makes you want to replay the game again and again, and it's not just because I'm the main character. I'm genuinely pleased with the gameplay and storyline. You get a sense of achievement when you manage to pass through an area you been stuck on for an eternity, especially when you manage to breeze through an extra 3 - 4 levels in one sitting without losing a single life. Mind you, that happens with a lot of games these days...I hope I'm not alone on this...To sum it up, The 11th Hour is, without a doubt, one of the greatest zombie apocalyptic platformers on the site, and I'm expecting it to get a high placing when the results for EGD 8 are released.

Final Notes

So The 11th Hour has managed to impress me greatly and I am truly honoured to play the main role in the game. For anyone out there who's a fan of zombies, likes interesting storylines or straight up likes to shoot things, then I'd suggest playing The 11th Hour if you have free time. That's all for now, ADIOS.
