StarPlane is a game created by jarwars

A golden award and a permanent review scan of all current and future games to the user who tells me what to call games like this and the last one I reviewed: Bee Hive. I don't know what to call them, the best I have come up with is overhead platformer. But that seems slightly deceiving and just generally...not helpful. I don't know, flying avatar games? I just have no idea. Regardless, it's Sploder's Biggest Game Critic here for review number thirteen. I hope you all enjoy the show.

Today in my endless effort to tear down the morale and esteem of game-creators everywhere (not at all what I actually try to do, I am simply an entertainer), I tackle jarwars's StarPlane. He boosted his game The Lost Legend a brief while back (excuse me, I actually think it was featured but is now inexplicably gone from the features) and I thought it was well deserving of a review, but I couldn't beat it and then my old pal troyio got to the review before me, so my burden of beating it was lifted. I like troyio. So like any game explorer that could hold a candle to Dora, I went exploring through the rest of jarwars's offerings. I asked my friends, do you see the review-worthy game? Is it here? Is it here? Is it there? Is it here? Oh, there it is! Would you look at that, right in plain sight! And there it was, StarWars. Heh, excuse me, StarPlane.

StarPlane is a PPG in which you control "the last of the star plane fighters", okay, come on jarwars. Imma be blount with you, like the Patriots to Colts, not to deflate your confidence too much, but this story was pitiful. Some inconsistency in the contractions, a misspell, and the worst name ever for your game's main villains, and you just finished a roller coaster of awful in this game's 4-sentence description. Your goal is to defeat the "master bosses" of which there are 4 in this game. That name is quite over-glorifying, might I add. To your credit though my friend, when I was younger, I would've been perfectly content with that story, so maybe it is just an age thing. That said, I don't scale my ratings to different assumed potentials based on age. (flashes cheeky grin)

Time to get down to business. You spend this game navigating around pretty well designed levels with obstacles and enemies scattered throughout. All of the levels look pretty good, and the shooting and controls all felt great. Although the shooting was weird with how quickly you could fire these explosive bullets that wait a second before exploding, it felt good anyways. Unfortunately, this gameplay at no point presented a challenge whatsoever, there was no difficulty curve because the game never got difficult. One level, which almost frightened me a little because it seemed pretty darn large, was just a total waste of time because you could just move a little out of where you started, shoot bullets at what appeared onscreen to be nothing but a few normal enemies, and you beat the level.

Every level ended with a "master boss" so there was no special boss at the end. Impressively, one thing did stand out about this game, the music. I recently added the music category to the PPG Rating Formula of mine, and I am glad I did, because jarwars hit the nail on the head with the music choice in StarPlane, all of the song choices were inexplicably perfect. Good job jarwars. That would be the finishing touch to make a game perfect if this game was better, unfortunately, it is still a pretty mediocre experience.

The Wrap-Up

I liked this game, I'll be honest. It was quite short, so it didn't really get boring. It was just a little bite of an alright cookie. It never gets stale, it never gets all that great, it just...it's just StarPlane. And it isn't that bad of a game, really. Nothing to write home about, typical concepts and gameplay, but some solid design coupled with perfectly crafted control, and impeccable song choice makes StarPlane a game that is at the very least, worth the space it takes up on this mass of the internet. Nice job jarwars. Now someone please tell me what genre this game and Bee Hive are in. You know what? I don't think those two are even in the same genre because Bee Hive had no action in it. Just...ugh forget it.

Rating: 53.712/100

Oh my, guys I tell you what, I am a genius. As I was calculating the rating, I thought how I would compare this game to Bee Hive, and I thought to myself, it is just BARELY better. And would you look at that, my formula came up with a rating that was just BARELY better. I am patting myself heavily on the back. These formulas are spectacular. You have just got to check them out here:

Worth Playing? Yes indeed! It is a mildly fun game, and it doesn't take up much time at all, give it a go!

Feature Worthy? No, not enough content, and not enough creativity or challenge.

This is the aforementioned, minor hit by jarwars: The Lost Legend, hah. But come on man, I made the game: This, come on now. Nah, I'm just playing! Hear me out jarwars, The Lost Legend was JUST as good as This, and This got over 20,000 plays. I mean that. Keep it up, I like your steelo, friend. You know who I miss? If you're a fan of my reviews, I think you know who I miss. *wink-wink, nudge-nudge*. See you all next time.
