The Best In The Business

...

Oh yes, Gnashty NaS is back. I have been very busy lately so I kind of dropped off of the site for just a few weeks (months, now at the time of finishing this review) or so but it is all good because I am back, and like I hinted at in the end of my last review, today we are checking out a juniortennis7 game. Oh yeah, you knew I'd be coming back for you juniortennis7. You knew it. And here I am.

For those of you that haven't read all of my other reviews, of if you were not around when I first began reviewing, of my first 7 reviews, 3 of them were of games by juniortennis7. Now, if you are not familiar with this user, he basically makes games based on real life video games, typically platformers of any kind, or Nintendo games. Now, juniortennis7 isn't an amazingly good game maker, however, he is at the top of his class. When it comes to replicas of real-world video games, juniortennis7 is hands down the best in the business. I honestly have not talked to him much at all on the site, even though this will be my fourth game of his that I review. I am like a crazed superfan that he doesn't even know exists. Oh but he knows me, and he loves to read me bash him and his games with compliments sprinkled in on the review page, and that is what I aim to do.

I am sure there are still thousands, no, millions of you who are still playing Mario Kart 9 by konnichiha. But, the prequel: Mario Kart 8. Mushroom Cup. No Lag, is now out thanks to juniortennis7. And I have to say, you did a really swell job with this one, my chum. The worst part about this game is that it has a god-awful introduction. If you know me, you know this is my least favorite thing about the darn PPG creator is that everyone needs to have an introduction, and some even take it a step further to have a channel introduction, then an introduction for the game and UGH. It is nauseating and juniortennis7 took that step into darkness, wasting 35 precious seconds of your life before you actually get to play. You better hope you are forgiven, juniortennis7, for the rage which you instilled into me is pulsating through my veins like a snake's fresh poison, and it doesn't feel nice.

Okay, between that last paragraph and this one are several months of time, let's get back into this review haha. So the gameplay is very solid in this juniortennis7 title. It's fun to play, and the fact that juniortennis7 added other racers that you had to beat in each course is...quite impressive to say the least. Not every course has the AI racers, juniortennis7 said the programming of AI was too laborious and presumably it was absolutely infuriating. Only the last course lacks the AI opponents and it really isn't a big deal, I don't blame him at all for omitting them from the last course to get the game out earlier, as he does release a lot of games. Also, he decided to remove them from the future installments of the series as well. The course does feel less...alive I might say without the AI opponents, but the solid gameplay is still most certainly intact.

It plays just like your typical overhead racer. You have an accelerate button, and you can turn with the left and right arrow keys. It works well and takes a little bit of practice to get good, which I enjoyed. The only flaw with the gameplay is that the speed your kart is traveling at changes throughout the game, and inconsistency is not something you want in your game, especially regarding gameplay. Despite this though, the game is fun throughout, really spectacular job juniortennis7. Before I start praising him, perhaps I should mention the most important thing in making this feel like a Mario Kart game on Sploder. The visuals. As usual, juniortennis7 did a solid job on the visuals. But in this title, he did spectacular. Quite simply, the stages look magnificent. Bravo.

The audio in the game is basically nonexistent. However, in the description, juniortennis7 gives you links to all the songs he recommends for each course in the game, I do believe they were all from the actual Mario Kart 8. It is way more trouble than it is worth to do this, but for curiosity's sake I did anyways. Honestly, the music fit very well, I felt like it was playing with the actual game, and not in an entirely different tab. This just shows how well done the gameplay and visuals are in Mario Kart 8. Mushroom Cup. No Lag.

The Wrap-Up

Mario Kart 8. Mushroom Cup. No Lag is a brilliant Sploder take on kart racing all things considered. It is fun, looks awesome, and the music juniortennis7 recommends fits phenomenally. No, perfectly. I don't usually praise games this much in my reviews, and by no means is this game revolutionary, but it does what it does very, very well. Exceptionally well. That dastardly intro though...it's a real bummer.

Rating: 70.165/100

Just to be clear, I had to give the music in this one a 0 while calculating it's rating. I thought about it a lot, but the fact of the matter is that following all of those links given is just a huge pain and unless you were playing the game to review it, you probably wouldn't use them.

Worth Playing? Yes indeed, lots of fun after the horrid intro.

Feature Worthy? Absolutely! It might be a little short and maybe not super innovative, but I think it is a very solid title that deserves a feature, even if it is a little different from your average gruelingly difficult shooter on the featured page. Since when did those get back in style anyways?

Did you like this game? Check this one out!

A good old example of the classic shooter race genre. Sort of. Enjoy :)
