Another EGD (Epic Game Drop) review. Trying to get them finished soon, it's been a while. So I'll be reviewing Invasion.. Fall of the Humans... by Superpiggy. Review number 26. =D

I know Superpiggy as an excellent game maker already, his game Opprobrium sits in the Epic Game Library and he has a lot of features to his name, I like a lot of his Plats and when this was released, I knew my opinion wasn't going to change. He just has the capacity to pull out an amazing game. This game actually got close to making the EGL but didn't quite get there, it's one of the better games released this year.

REVIEW

It depends on your computer, but on slow computers, this game will lag. On slightly better computers, it still could lag a little. On some levels it's packed with plentiful objects and a lot of burst tiles going off at the same time, at the ends of some levels the multiple level doors could cause lag, a few factors for those people with slower computers that could bring down the gameplay, luckily for us, Piggy has an 8bit version, so we all can enjoy this great game! It's a little slow at times but the game is addicting (has a little humour at some points throughout the game added up the fun level) and has a great ongoing story throughout the game using our chatterbox friends Wizard, Owl, and General. It's one of those serious games with a bit of fun to spice it up.

The storyline, while on that topic was quite exceptional, though not the most original idea (an Invasion...?) Superpiggy did it well, it wasn't just one of those games where you have a storyline in the description and then leave it for the rest of the game, through a heap of Invasion levels Owls, Wizards and Generals were used to put together a scene of desperation, battle, etc.

There was a lot of action throughout the whole game, it had some intense scenes and it was fantastic for the challenge aspect of the game. A lot of enemies (yet you weren't always forced to fight). It's more of a game about trying to avoid those action scenes and run away passed them to preserve health for later.

While we're on the subject of enemies, I'd say the placement was quite good, a little bit of a messy look of placement on occasions but usually they were placed in the right places at the right times. If you're a smart game player, tactics come into mind about how to bypass those enemies, or how to fight them without losing too much health etc, Piggy made the player think well.

As well as action, puzzles played a major role in the game, you'd find quite a few of them (though sometimes I got the feeling it was search for a switch here, burst a tile here, find another switch here and go through where the burst tile was once blocking you) so evidently it got a little repetitive, which is fine sometimes, I often needed a break from all of those enemies. A few puzzles were pretty creative though, they weren't a major standout to me.

The game's pretty fun, I'll give Piggy that, the huge levels, the action, the puzzles, it all contributes to you dying, but then you just want to refresh the page to try and beat it again, it's one of those games.

FINAL SCORES

Gameplay: 7/10

Action: 9/10

Puzzles: 7/10

Placement: 7/10

Fun: 9/10

Overall: 8/10

EGL WORTHY?

Well, it was one of those games that got suggested through EGD for the EGL, and it got denied. I voted no, and I'll tell you why. Yes, it was an absolutely brilliant game, in the terms that it was made, but I didn't see anything that stood out a heap from other games, didn't see anything revolutionary (though it is no longer a requirement, it goes a long way to helping). I will say however, it's one of the better games released this year.
