BrainTeaser is a game created by myownself

Hi all,

My own self is back for another review, my own selves 41st! My own self shall be reviewing a game made by Myownself, BrainTeaser! My own self featured this game, and here my own self is going to review it. My own self knows Myownself as a very cool guy, a Major on the forums and one of my own selves best buddies. Myownself has made some pretty cool games in the past, but how well did Myownself do with this?

REVIEW

Since the graphics update in the Plat, we've already seen a couple of games that have used it well, such as games like Achromatic and Achromatic 2 by Charis, which specifically used the flickering of the blocks to the games advantage to come up with some cool sequences and puzzles, BrainTeaser does similarly with invisible blocks, sandblocks, weakfloors etc to construct some fun scenes. The gameplay ran lag free and I found it fun (mostly...) to play. While I was testing this game, the platforming in the main crystal room was super tedious, as this plat ran quite fast and many of the platforms you needed to jump on were rather small, it did end up a little frustrating, thanks to Myown for taking my advice and adding a grapple to ease the frustration, it did the trick.

There were some fun sequences which I liked, such as the ones involving lava, especially the slider one where you have to jump to avoid invisible blocks without falling, it's simple but quite fun. Others such as the one where you have to pass over weakfloors twice without falling to progress is also actually more intense then it looks. Dying in this game or getting stuck definitely makes you rage a bit on the inside, but the feeling when you get to see every fun little sequence and beat the game is the best.

The game is a puzzle in itself, meaning by the design and colouring of certain blocks, obviously the invisible blocks played a huge role in this game which wouldn't be the same without them. I liked the selective choice of which blocks to colour and which to not. The game was mostly wide open, nothing too crammed which was a relief, sometimes I get really annoyed at packed in games (games like Egnites).

Some of the placement of the platforms in the main crystal room were slightly annoying as I fell multiple times during testing, but Myown added a grapple which fixed that up.

There wasn't really any scenery in this game, it would probably look better aesthetically with the addition of a bit of scenery but I'm not going to hold it against Myown too much, sometimes you have a perfectly paced game without scenery and when you add scenery the game is a lag wh0re, I'd rather it be scenery-less and fast paced so I can play it with freedom.

Feature Worthy?

Yeah, I like the difficulty, creativity and the fun in the game. I'm not sure about EGL, I'm kind of on the fence, it's a great game and righ t up there though, no doubt. Great job Myown.
