Reality Boost is a game created by svsv

Sorry for the rubbish Title. I couldn't think up anything. Anyway, it was just over 3 Months (3 Months yesterday I think) since I was accepted as a Reviewer. And since then I have published 29 Reviews on the Mainsite. This Review, is my 30th. For my 30th Review I am Reviewing Reality Boost by svsv. Which he asked me to Review in the [WR] Thread and on the [WR] Forums. And if you want a Review, just post a link on the [WR] Thread (Game Sharing, Community) One of us will probably answer.

Pre-Thoughts

I've heard of Svsv before and noticed that this was his first Featured Game. Judging by his Attitude on the Community I didn't believe that he had one Feature. And made me think that as this is his first Feature Editors might be expecting a little less. If you have a look on his page it seems his first 2 Games were Art Games (Or something not very Good). And the others look like better Games but still look a bit arty (Not a Problem, they're probably epic) So, Expectations. Medium, I'm hoping this isn't one of those Bad Decisions Editors sometimes make (You know the examples) and that it's got a good Challenge and everything.

Thumbnail

It looks a bit empty. It's got that Art at the start (As expected) but there really isn't anything to it apart from that. Apart from of course, the Obvious. Walls. There's also a bit of Nitro but that really is it. I think that I'm speechless, I can't add anything to this Paragraph. Apart from, am I missing out on the best Part? Because for a Featured Game that looks like there's nothing to it. Infact, even for a non Featured Game. The answer to my Question, you will find out later on in this Review. Anyway, lets talk about the Arty bit at the Start (Intro, whatever people call it) This looks quite professional, infact. Very Professional. So that makes the Game seem at least a bit hopeful. Even if the rest isn't great. Also, no Story Paragraph as from what I know there is no Story

Gameplay

This, is what disappoints me. The Majority of the Game is going around a Maze and once you know your Way, only requires a little bit of Skill, which I had. Making the Game quite easy and requiring little Practise. Action, an Element I love to see in Games just wasn't there until towards the End. And there were usually quite large Chunks in between each piece of Action. The Time limit should be lowered a little to drive you insane. It would also give the Game Action. Another Element which I don't like seeing (lag), was also there in Places, which brung me to even more disappointment. Time, the Game was longer then what I normally Review, but it didn't suit the Game. It takes about 4 Minutes to beat (If you do beat it) but alot of that is going to collect another Crystal which involves crossing the whole Map to collect normally. The Game would be much more enjoyable if it had Enemies to entertain you. And, the Game also played a little Trick on me. When I first played it, I wanted to play it again, yet got very bored while doing so, but I still wanted to play it again. My mind is now Confused and hurt. Anyway, overall. Gameplay was alright, but it needed quite a bit of Tweaks (Increase in Enemies throughout while trying to Avoid use of Turrets (They are awesome but do cause alot of Lag) (I also understand it wasn't intended to have enemies, but my Opinion is that they needed them. There are more improvements in Scenery that you could consider)

Scenery

So, in Thumbnail I was talking about this Professional design at the very start of the Game. Sadly though, it was the only piece of Decent Scenery that there was throughout the Game. The Backround though, was pretty cool. It made me think of the Word "Boost" which as you can see is in the Title. Reality Boost lacks in design, another thing that could be used to improve the Poor Gameplay (And also act as an Alternative for Enemies) But then, we don't wanna completely turn it into an Art Game (Do you?) So, you should also add Enemies. Anyway, Scenery. Minor Disappointment, a couple more Tweaks needed for Improvement then Gameplay. But it's still acceptable

Placement

Enemies were placed towards the ending of the Game. And I didn't see anything that bad about the Placement of Enemies, apart from the fact they were all at the end. The Crystals were placed very far away from each other. And you'd find yourself getting bored of finding them (Due to the Distance) very easily. But every con you find in the Game is about the same thing. With Block Placement though, it's something Vital (Like pretty much always) Without the Polygons you could run to each Crystal, and that would make the Game horrible. There are other Placements (Like Hazards, which there weren't any of and Power-ups, which there also weren't any of, same with Health) but then, if you read that they didn't have anything to Review. Anyway, Placement. Like everything else was acceptable, but not great

Puzzles & Traps

Puzzles? Now, judging by the Review so far you're probably expecting me to say that there were no Puzzles for me to Review. If you thought so, you were wrong! There is a small Puzzle, which is pretty much all Build up to the End-Game (Which, is the best bit) You have to find Keys to get other Keys to get to the last 2 Crystals. You have to look around for the Keys, and your Radar can't detect them (Well, I think so) That's all the Puzzles that there really are to offer though. Apart from of course, the Concept. Which was, the Maze. I probably know my whole way around it though so for me it's not really that much of a Puzzle. Anyway, what Traps are there to offer in Reality Boost? The answer, is none. So, Puzzles were alright. And there wasn't anything for Traps.

Pros

Decent Concept, Decent Endgame, Decent Art for Beginning

Cons

Lack of Challenge, Lack of Enemies, Boredom

Ratings

Action: 5/10

Awesomeness (Gameplay): 6/10

Addictiveness: 8/10 (A Higher Rating for hurting my Brain with it)

Difficulty: 6/10

Scenery: 5/10

Time: 4/10

Lag: 8/10 (There was some but little)

Story: 0/10 (I'm sure svsv could add one)

Placement: 6/10

Puzzles & Traps: 6/10

Overall: _____.5/__________

A 5.5/10. The Game has Major Cons to it, but makes up for it by it's Endgame, Puzzles & ability to hurt my Brain with it's Addictiveness. But before I can say that it's Feature Worthy Minor Tweaks are needed. Such as of course, more Decoration like in that beginning & more Enemies placed around the Place. But that's the only thing stopping me from enjoying the Game, and creating all the Cons. Anyway, there's your Review and the Criticism you asked for (Remember, you wanted me to do this so I could explain what I didn't like about the Game)

Thanks for Reading, and hope you enjoyed this Review
