[EGD] My First EGD Review
Icarus. Awakening is a game created by shadowlordsean
I'm sure you all already know about EGD. If you don't, where have you been? Well, basically I'm helping out with the reviewing and stuff and yeah. Nothing overly interesting. I'm sure you just want to read the review. Anyway, for my 38th Review and 1st EGD Review I will be Reviewing Icarus. Awakening by shadowlordsean (My rating may be different from the thread rating btw, as I had to rate so many games then that a lot of my attempts were rushed)
Pre-thoughts
Question mark.
Thumbnail
Lol, did you really think I'd do a 2 word paragraph? If so, you're a fail. Anyway, those two words are what I was thinking before I played this. I've never played anything from Shadowlordsean before so I don't know what I should be expecting. The game is a plat. Most plats you see now are just a load of annoying puzzles. But it could be anything
Ok, it's time for thumbnail thumbnail. Not pre-thumbnail-pre-thoughts. The game looks well decorated and I can see a few enemies. This slightly increase my hope. The game also looks like there could be a lot of water throughout the game. This doesn't change my opinion thought at all. I'm not entirely sure what to expect from Icarus Awakening, whether it will be an enjoyable experience or a dull one. But I am expecting there to be at least a bit action from the start and possibly a few puzzles (Sorry about these paragraphs being lame)
Gameplay
The game starts off as an average game. Nothing overly special, but nothing that just makes you go "You know what, forget it" And there isn't really that action that I was expecting there. After breaking two sandblocks I begin to realise that the game may not be that great. The game is really easy, mostly. There is one moment of challenge, but it just takes time and patience to get past. A lot of patience, too much. In my EGD rating thread, this is where I gave up. But I can now say that I have beaten the game multiple times. There wasn't anything that brilliant in the gameplay to Icarus. Awakening, the best moment was probably the ending, which was supposed to be hard (I can tell by the choice of enemy and the fact that there are hazards present) but it was poorly executed. Sorry Shadowlordsean, but the gameplay was a disappointment
Scenery
Icarus. Awakening looked pretty sweet, I didn't see the full map (As I aimed straight for the finish) but what I did see, I liked. Most of the game was symmetrical, which I think improves the visuals. The water also helps add to the visual brilliance, at the price of quality to the gameplay. The tile chosen for the game also suited the game well and style. Don't really have anything else to say, so yeah. It was good
Placement
Meh, enemies seemed to be placed very well at the start of the game. But like the gameplay, it dipped after the two sandblocks. Kind of like a rollercoaster, you're going around, suddenly it goes up. You wet yourself thinking of the drop, and then it goes down. You can kind of think of the enemy placement as the cart. Starting from the bottom, and rising, before dropping (Only without the wetting yourself part lol) Most enemies were harmless after that. Even a firetroll bleeped against me. Blocks could've also been placed differently in some areas to improve the enemy placement. However, that's luckily everything negative I have to say about placement. There wasn't anything that bad about it other then what I've mentioned. So, shadowlordsean didn't do that bad
Creativity And Originality
The way the game worked has probably been used several times before, and a lot of the ideas have been used before too. Which not only takes away the originality to the game, but kind of harms the creativity. Like jumping out a windows harms your body. However, the concept was pretty good. Which brings it up a little. Going back to my rollercoaster references, this prepares people for a giant drop. Right? Despite a creative concept (Still creative after that dip) the execution of it in some areas was fairly poor. Don't really have anything left to say, so time for another paragraph
How Scary Would The Game Be If It Was A Rollercoaster
Terrifying. Starts off fairly slow and straight with a little bump every now again. But the bumps would gradually get bigger and you would find yourself going at crazy speeds is some areas. Pros to the game would bring you up often, and cons would send you flying down. Only the bravest of people would want to ride it. Would you be up to the challenge based on what I said? Tell me in the comments
Pros
The game had a lot of pros, such as the creative concept, the well decorated map and a thumbnail that grabs views.
Cons
It may have had pros, but it also had loads of cons. Such as poor enemy placement, no gameplay that amazed me and lack of a challenge

5/10. The game had it's ups and downs. I will try some of shadowlordsean's other stuff after playing this, but I'm not expecting an overly enjoyable experience. I'm sure you've guessed this already but if you're dumb, I do not think this is feature worthy. But if Shadowlordsean works harder using the points I made in this, he will improve
Thanks for reading, please leave a comment telling me what you thought, and how I can improve in future reviews. Remember, I haven't done a Sploder review in over 8 months. So I may be a little rusty
