Catch The Light is a game created by epicorange789

I'm not sure how you can catch light. I went outside with a jar, opened the jar and tried to catch light. However, when I brought it back inside into a dark room it didn't glow. :( So I don't know why Epicorange789 entitled his game Catch The Light, because you cannot catch it.

In case you haven't noticed that orange text, I am reviewing Catch The Light by Epicorange789. Epicorange requested me to review a game of his, so here I am. Talking about catching light, I'm still trying.

My initial thoughts of the game aren't very high. Here we have a member without many quality games, which is an orange that claims to be epic. Most of his platformers tend to be a puzzle or action game. His puzzles don't seem to be original and they don't seem to impress me, and his action games are good before you come to an unforgiving trap. So I am expecting an average game.

The thumbnail does not look very intriguing. In fact, it looks terrible. I'm sure this "Epicorange" could have took some time to put make up on it, even a simple eyeliner could have made this thumbnail look better. It looks like my mum when she just wakes up having a very rough night, if you know what I mean. The scenery I can see does not match, but looking at this thumbnail it looks like I'm in for a puzzle game, hopefully a puzzle treat.

Review:

This game really makes you think, but if you already have played many puzzle games this game may be a breeze. However, you need to play this game many times to know what's ahead of you. After a while, this gets annoying and I don't have the urge to do my five minute work again. It's kind of like making a cake. It just came out of the oven, then you drop it, before you know it, the dog has been licking up your pink fairy cake which took you over two hours to make. Would you be bothered to do all that work again? If you replied with yes, would you be bothered to do it for the eighth time? Well that's how I felt with this game. However, when you finally know what's ahead, it's a walk in the park, except with lava, mechanics, tiles, doors and switches. Kind of dangerous if you ask me.

With this being a puzzle game, you would think there would be at least one exceptional puzzle which will amaze you, right? Well I didn't see any puzzle that really amazed me, all were just recycled puzzles I've already seen used from other great Platformer puzzle makers, for example youngcaliman and I saw many puzzles that I created (or so I think) in this game. I would've liked something new. If you were to have vanilla ice-cream over and over again, wouldn't it just become bland? Wouldn't you like to try something new? Well, that's what I thought of the puzzles in this game, bland and overused.

The placement was average. My main problem would be the placement in power-ups. The creator just scattered them at the start carelessly, but that started to slowly improve when you got further and further into the cake- game. The block placement was okay, it was a little sloppy towards the end, but I had no problems with the rest of the block placement.

The scenery was just... ugly. The trees in the background did not help and at the start of the game it took away the look of those statues at the start. As I progressed further n the game, I only saw a spider web thingy, nothing else. I don't really care about there not being anything else, it's just those ugly trees. They just make the game look fugly. D=

There was no real creative puzzles in Catch The Light. I would've liked to seen one or two original puzzles, it makes games more special and stand out from the crowd. Since the puzzles weren't very creative, the game was just bland, and if you played enough puzzle games you would know all of the puzzles.

Ratings:

Action: NA/NA. This wasn't an action game, so why would I rate the action? =P

Puzzles and traps: 2.5/5. There were many, but they were unoriginal.

Placement: 3.5/5. Sloppy at the start, but was fine later in the game.

Scenery: 2/5. Just looked ugly.

Creativity. 2/5. Not too great, one small kind of creative puzzle though.

Overall: 3/5

Catch The Light is a decent puzzle game. It's not exactly like the best cake in the world, but it certainly not is like the worst one (dop doo flavoured cake is terrible). If you have played many puzzle games, you will find this game fairly easy (I only died because I made a foolish mistake) because of the puzzles.

Feature worthy? No. It wasn't very creative and all the puzzles had been seen in previous games.
