Sky Temple is a game created by rule60

Yay another review. Rule60 has presented me with his EGD game, Sky Temple. You all know the drill, point out the flaws, exaggerate on them, talk about the good stuff for a minute then give the game a bad score. So I guess we shall get on with it.

Sky Temple sounds like an alright name. It's not amazing but it's not horrid either. If I was to play a Legend Of Zelda game, it would probably have an area sounding similar. Not really much to talk about here.

The story of the game is that two lovely things named owl and wizard adventure into a floating temple that isn't really a temple and more a floating junkyard, and you follow. As you go inside of it rule60 says "lol you're trapped" and then leaves you. In the end both of them leave you to die and they watch your flesh rot and eat it for breakfast, the end. Just kidding. There was no storyline to Sky Temple and there could of been one. Of course this doesn't matter to some, but it would of been good to have a story since this game feels like it is easy to write a storyline for. Plus there's just some hobos hanging around (the owl and wizard) for no reason and that's a little confusing.

Gameplay

The most annoying thing about games is falling. You're just about to complete a game when you miss that platform and fall to the ground. This game had too much of that. Even with a grapple it was still too difficult with sticky keys deciding to go "Muhahaha!" and watch you fall to the ground, laughing. To make it even more painful there are parts where you NEED to use your grapple and swing like you're a modern version of Tarzan. If you're going to make a game where you can fall down, place a teleporter that leads back to the start of the game, and punish the player by taking away some of their health. Just don't be stupid like that.

Moving aside from the evil sticky keys and falling, the game was short lived and did not have much content. Yes, quality over quantity bla bla bla, but sometimes games need to have more content because there is simply something missing. I finished this game and thought "oh, that's it?". It was a good adventure that took up ten minutes, but there simply wasn't enough and I did not get that WOW factor.

Another thing about this game that I didn't particularly like was the enemy placement. There wasn't enough enemies, and then there was way too much enemies. Some areas felt bland and needed an enemy to add an extra challenge, particularly towards the flat surfaces. The only part where there is too much enemies is a room I like to call...

The cage

In this room you would, well, enter it, and out popped the owls evil minions (remember, don't trust owl, owl is a meany bottom. He traps you) and they decided to squash you underneath them and then a giant monster would attack you while you were getting bitten by bats, hit by ninja's and being pounded with a giant ax by a demon.

Fun.

That's all I have wrong with the game. The game is more of an exploration genre, but I would say that puzzles play a large role too. They aren't impossible puzzles like moving something from one side of the map to another while avoiding 700 traps, which is great, however they require a decent amount of thought to solve them, which is also great. An original puzzle to shake up the game and take it to the next level would of been greatly appreciated.

Despite falling numerous times, I didn't feel like I was playing this game just because I had to, but rather because I wanted to. Something about Sky Temple is quite charming and draws you in after failing. I believe it may be that it's simple to progress through if the sticky keys don't get their way.

Sky Temple is a great game that is only hindered by one annoying trap and how short it is. More enemies would of made the game a better experience as well. I'm looking forward to more platformers by Rule60, and I recommend this game as well, even if it's a tad frustrating. xP
