Tomb is a game created by lordeldar

Greetings everybody, and welcome back to yet another batch of Epic Game Drop games to review! Epic Game Drop is an annual competition that sees many users enter one of their magnificent games they are creating in an attempt to take out many prizes or just have fun. As such, Epico decides to be a good Sploder member and posts the thread EGD9 Reviewing

Im wrapped.

So, on to the review, eh? Today Ill be reviewing Tomb by Lordeldar, which is his EGD9 entry.

Tomb sees the protagonist, John, or Randall, Im not really sure as youre given two different names in level three, awaken to find himself trapped, well, in a Tomb. You arent really given any storyline information until level three, where your team carefully tries to guide you through safely. The storyline is arguably the strong point for the game, its the one thing that stays consistent throughout the game. However, it does get a little out of control where you see a strange demon thingo and fluffy bunnies IN THE SAME LEVEL, what makes it even more outrageous is when you calmly show a photo of that demon thing to your team while its right in front of you.

Alrighty then.

The plot twist at the end is carefully constructed to just contradict everything in the game and mess with your head. I wont spoil anything, but it is definitely a surprise and a shock, and the game ends abruptly, with many questions left unanswered. I really enjoyed reading the messages throughout the game and never once felt like it was unnecessary.

Lordeldar made sure to include plenty amount of puzzles in the game. After conveniently finding grenades on level one, it becomes a tiresome adventure of hitting many switches. It was cool the first time, but after trekking back and forth to hit the switches it can get a little bland. I did exaggerate on that because the level is SMALL, but that was pretty much the only flaw I had with the puzzles. One level lord makes great use of the grenades by having to carefully study your surroundings to try and hit it with a grenade. There werent only grenade puzzles though, occasionally a puzzle with yellow rings would come up and he even made one where you moved a wheel and it would trigger a perm block switch, but also closing other pathways, creating quite a creative maze (even if it was seen in Quest Zone II, it had a creative twist, otherwise it just would of been a disgusting ripoff). Overall, the puzzles arent anything stupid or ridiculously hard, but they give the player a decent challenge and make great use of power ups and switches.

The action was decently made. I mean, apart from those motherstupid ugh probes there wasnt really anything THAT STUPID, oh did I forget slashing two rockys in the early levels while they cant do anything to you seems like I did. I have no idea why Lord thought it would be entertaining just making you fight two stationary rockies while you just stand there slashing your sword for thirty seconds, it didnt really rock my world.

Im sorry.

The other action in the game was decently made. The boss battles were quite chaotic, even if I used my arsenal of like six weapons to defeat a george and two rockies (they werent the ones I mentioned before) I didnt feel like anything SUPER cheap happened. I mean, theres one time a rocky jumped on me and I got punched twice and died, but that was just from my uber reckless behaviour. There wasnt really any terrible placement, but in the end you can kind of avoid the action with weapons you collected from sidequests or other things.

The scenery looked nice as the torch illuminated the backwalls, but after a while I saw that lord just repeated the scenery on throughout the whole game. This is a very small complaint, but I wouldve loved some more variety.

SCORE: four-and-a-quarter fluffy bunnies out of five

(4.25/5)

Tomb was indeed a very solid game from Lord. None of the gameplay SUPER WOWD me, and I felt like the story was well constructed. Will this game go far in EGD? Most likely. EGL worthy? It wasnt really EPIC, and not too revolutionary. I think it 100% earns its (future) spot on the featured page, and I would recommend everyone to play this game. Lords platformers just keep getting better, and Tomb definitely shows this.
