Super Sploder Kart is a game created by mat7772

Nothing quite matches the experience of playing a good racing game. Well designed tracks, tight controls, tough AI,and a whole bunch of fun are some of the key features that make racing games so good. This game in particular is trying to emulate the popular mario kart series. Myself being a huge fan of racing games was booming with hype. With all that in mind is Super Sploder Kart by mat772 a great racing game? Well let's find by taking a look at the game that got everybody saying:

This. Is. Racing.

Prethoughts and Preface

Unfortunately Sploder has never had a quality racing game worth playing. Yeah we had Drift but it's not exactly the best. Then we had a tiny user named mat772 who decided to make a racing game for EGD. I'll admit I was skeptical at first but after playing it multiple times I was blown away. The thumbnail in retrospect is kinda mediocre but it get's the job done.

Now that we got all that splode out-of-the-way were gonna do this review a little differently. Were going to start by rating this game based on one certain aspect that makes a great racing game. Blah Blah Blah LET'S DO THIS!

This. Is. Racing.

The Tracks

What better way to start this then by looking at the tracks. Even if your racing game does everything right if the tracks are horrible the racing game is horrible. I'll be going through each track and give my general thoughts on them.

Enzo Raceway- BASIC, That's the one word I could use to describe this. It gives you time to get use to the controls which is helpful but let's be honest here the track is boring. It's suppose to be like the first track in a mario kart game but even that is an understatement.

Cargo Field- I love this track. It's probably my favorite and I don't know why. Driving through the airplane is so much fun and dodging the boxes get you in a rhythm. It's not visually appealing but it so much fun.

Sploder Square- This track like the first one is boring. It's made even more clear by just finishing the amazing track known as cargo field. It's literally a square. The obstacles are easily avoidable and the level is covered in a dull gray.

Fluffy Bunny Hills- I'll admit this track is better than sploder square and even the first track but it doesn't hold a candle to cargo field. The game gets a little more challenging here but you'll probably be distracted by absurd amount of bunnies. This track also knows what color is and looks pretty good because of it.

Snowman Alps - Fun fact: I actually replayed the game just to figure out what this track is called. Snowman Alps is your typical ice track but without sloppy ice physics. One snowman in particular will try to ruin your fun but get past him and this track is easy. I like this track it's alright.

Shadross Stadium - Wario Stadium much? I like to think mat took the color palette of shadross' avatar and painted the entire stage in that palette. This track actually had some tight turns and oil spills which warranted some difficulty.

Pirate Skies - Introducing the 2nd hardest track in the game! Yeah this track is hard. Tight turns are abundant here and the pirate ship looks awesome. Go play it for yourself and you'll see what I mean.

Eth's Castle - And now..The hardest track in the game. The music here actually threw me off guard but it fit nicely. Think bowser's castle plus Shadross Stadium them times the difficulty times ten. Oh and I almost forgot Eth is on fire.

Rainbow Road - It maybe be called something different but I'm not playing through Eth's Castle again to figure it out. The last track in the game is actually pretty easy provided you get past that space cannon or whatever.

Overall the tracks can range from boring to exciting to difficult. I don't want to say it's a mixed bag but it kinda is. Some tracks are cool and fun to play through but others are either bland or difficult. Most of them just involve driving in a square or rectangle.

The Good: AI and Addictiveness

As you read in paragraph title I'll be talking about the computer drivers or as most people know it the AI. Let me say it's actually quite remarkable for this game (and sploder standards) to have this good AI. Two other karts race you and each kart has their own way of completing the track. They won't bump into you but there actually pretty challenging to beat. They don't make mistakes so if you get to far behind your screwed. Granted I would like to see more cpu racers but given the limitations of the physics creator mat772 did a fantastic job.

Another worth praising is just how addictive the game actually is. I've probably played this game about ten times and I played it again for the review. Even if the game only takes about 5 to 10 minutes max I can bet you'll play it at least twice. Which is more than I can say for Drift.

The Bad: Visuals,Repetitive,Controls

Yes, I know the review is still going. Yes, this review is extremely long. No, I'm not done yet. Anyway it's time to mention the problems I've had with the game. First off the visuals are lacking. That's not to say they look bad it's just there basic. Keep in mind this only applies to the tracks and not the karts which look fantastic. Nothing about the tracks look incredibly detailed or stunning. For an EGD game I was kinda expecting that visual wow that comes with it. Oh well I guess I've been spoiled with shadross' games.

Another problem I had (and a lot of other people had) was just how repetitive it is. That could be because of the difficulty or it could be something else entirely. I've never played a racing game where it felt like I was doing the same boring thing over and over. Sure it was addictive but whats the point if I get bored halfway through. It's also worth mentioning that after you beat it you can pretty much breeze through the entire game.

The controls can also take some getting used to but to be fair mat did remarkable with what he had to work with. Sometimes I couldn't get the car to start which eventually stopped but if you don't hold w right before you start you might not move at all. Please note this is mostly a nitpick but I feel it's worth saying here.

This. Is. OKAY WE GET IT MOVE ON! DO THE RATINGS ALREADY!(Fine..)

Final Thoughts

Overall Super Sploder Kart by mat772 is good but does have its problems. It's not perfect and to be honest no game is. You should really play this for yourself as this is by far sploder's best racing game. I'm crossing my fingers that this get's a sequel. If it does then I'll make another review (hopefully not as long as this one) no questions asked.
