This was a real war during 1868-1869 in Japan. This was one of the last wars in Asia that samurais fought in. The Aizu Clan was protecting a castle, when a unit of 20 boys(ages 15-17) got seperated from their clan. They all went to a hill and saw the castle in flames. They all decided to commit junshi (a form of disembowelment designed to show loyalty to lord and clan. IT was a painful way to die. All but one boy died. He used his sword on himself but did not die. His name was Linuma Sadakichi, who was rescued by a farmer. He lived to tell the tale. Whatmade it worst was the castle was not in flames it was the town around it. The 20 boys families and friends were safe in the castle. The sacrfice may have seemed brave, but they wasted their lives.
