Jumpie is a game created by makever

Hey guys, welcome back to my reviews. This one may get a bit harey so watch out. I really don't carrot what you guys think, I will be as honest as possible. No bunny will have anything to say anything else about the game once I get through with it. I will write it like I just don't hare!

You know what? Lets just skip to the review.

Its so bunnyful

A question I ask myself when I first review a game, is what does this game do for me? Let me address its obvious strengths first. The game is presented extremely well. The background is colorful, non repetitive, inspired, creative, and co-hesive, and not only that but it is relevant to the gameplay. I found myself interacting with the scenery a lot to solve puzzles and get clues as where to go. I wouldn't be disappointing if I picked up a cartridge for my SP and found that it looked like this. Aside from the background effects, everything else about the game looks very nice too. The enemies look cool, the blocks chosen fit nicely and you can tell a lot of work went into everything. As for the intro and credits, they were so well made. I was astounded at how well it looked, especially the opening sequence of the game that presented the story to me through well made graphics. Just a bit of a side thing, but I'm glad he gave me the option to skip the intro if I so wanted, because a lot of games force me to sit through that, but this time I was happy to, but it was a nice little feature. The graphics themselves do very well to work with the game and whoever made them obviously displays talent with the graphics creator. Overall the game looks VERY well made and has a professional tone to it, which is impressive considering it was made from the head ache that is the ppg creator.

A Real Hare Raiser

Within the presentation category, I feel like I should address the story separately in its own paragraph. I feel like addressing the way the story is presented first. Instead of trying to cram everything into the little text boxes that each level gives you, Makever decided to give an optional level at the start that gave me a detailed bio on what was to come and then used 'speech bubbles' within the levels afterward to inform the player of new features and advance the plot. While the plot of this game was very simple, get your carrots back from the jealous jumping frogs, I thought it was adorable and it was reasonable for the style at which he was going for. It felt like a Kirby game for me but I'll embellish upon that later. I'm glad he didn't go for anything to ambitious in the plot. Its a bunny for heavens sake. I see to many plots out there where its like 'The World will end and this very powerful evil overlord zombies is going to destroy everything zombies and then you must zombies be the one to save the world zombies from the apocalypse!" Then the main character is like a fricking squirrel. So to sum it up, cute plot goes well with a cute game, it is nice to just play something more whimsical for a change. Its original, its fresh, and I love it. Now that I've addressed the creativity let me tear into the gameplay.

The opportunity is there if he would just g-rabbit

For those of you who don't know (you should if you are reading this review)Jumpie is a game that utilizes only 2 keys and a mouse and manages to be successful in what it sets out for. Basically the Up and W keys propel you in their respective directions (Up takes you right and W takes you left). SOOOO basically you are just some bunny hip hopping around. You jump around, solve some puzzles, avoid some traps, and all is good. Sometimes in the game Makever gives you the ability to shoot...whatever I'm shooting, using the mouse click. As far as the control scheme goes it was a bit annoying to have to move my hand over to the mouse in order to shoot just to move it back but it was never a major issue for me. What I did find annoying was that the gameplay moved rather slowly. The bunny, while adorable and fluffy, wasn't in any hurry to get his carrots. If the bunny was just a tad faster or covered more ground I would be ok. The main issue with that is that you were generally running off of 1 or 2 lives, meaning that if you died you would have to hop ALL the way back to the given point in the level, and Makever spared no expense in placing enemies. To be fair the enemies were placed and chosen very nicely for the given situation, I just found that the trial and error gameplay combined with Jumpie taking his sweet old time didn't do much for me. This especially became annoying when Makever deliberately slowed down the gameplay in areas like water, or apparently curtain. I'm looking at you Level Seven. Later in the longer levels this became a real issue. I finished this game with a grand total of over 100 minutes. He finished it in 20 so maybe I just bleep...:) Anyways, I thought that the jumping was implemented well and aside from the speed I felt like Makever did well to use the feature to its fullest potential for what he had. I don't really see anything he could have done to embellish upon the concept of the game. That's another thing, Makever was constantly introducing new mechanics and enemies to the game to keep it interesting and when he wasn't doing that he completely changed the environment of the game to keep me interesting. I found Level 6 in particular was pretty exhilarating. (It includes fast jumping sequences that were a highlight of the game for me.) As for the enemies, being frogs, Makever stuck to a theme but introduced all kinds of baddies. Just when I thought I had mastered avoiding one type he threw in three more to keep me on my toes. I found the design of the big frogs to be particularly hilarious. I liked how really no two enemies were the game and they were clearly indicated by color and size.

Overall I felt like he executed the gameplay fairly well.

I stated earlier this felt like a Kirby game. Its cute, it plays very floaty and the plotline is simple yet driven. The graphics look very similar and the bunny would be a cute addition to the franchise, meaning I wouldn't think it would be out of place. Most of you don't care about it so I'll leave that now. Makever definitely came out of no where and I hope he'll take us somewhere in the future. Reminds me a lot of Tbremise if you have seen his games. Anyways, I recommend you check out jump because despite its tedious nature is quite the fun play. With all this talk of bunnies I need to be garden my garden. See you next time for more buns ^_^
