Cannonballs are a thing in this town.

So I sat here, thinking to myself, “Do I really want to enter this contest? I don't want to steal the prize.” If you couldn't tell, I decided to. Enough about me anyways...I'm here to review a nice little gem by an even cooler forum member. His name is Derpki...err Dudki. His games are always well done and bring something fresh to the table. I didn't know he was much a shooter guy so I decided to give the game a try.

Concept:

The game is called Cannon Town, and respectfully, has a lot of cannons. The whole idea of the game is to get a large number of flags and return them to the base. This seems like an easy task, until you run into the...well...cannons. A LOT of cannons!

Map Design

The thumbnail caught my attention immediately. It didn't just look amazing, but it also showed part of the game. You can see some flags and the base in it, thus helping you know right away what the game would be about. To me, this was better than a lot of thumbnails, because some tend to just look cool, and don't mean anything to the game.

The rest of the map was created very nicely as well. It was deceivingly small, and had plenty of pathways to go through. There were even some secret pathways that were well hidden. Dudki also did something that some users don't always do. He used to map design to compliment his placement. (We'll get more to this later.)

Overall, the game goes far and beyond with it's map design. I'm glad I can know, when going into other games by dudki, that map design won't be a problem.

Gameplay (Difficulty, Placement, Enjoyable?, etc)

You can have great map design, but if the game isn't fun...well, quite frankly you don't have a good game. This game doesn't have to worry about that though, because this game was a blast!

The game took a very simple concept, and made a more complex game. After watching the walkthrough I saw that there was more to the game. You can pick anyway you want to pick up all the flags, but the video Dudki made shows that he made one specific way to get the game done as easily as possible.

He did this mainly by his placement of enemies and items. He placed health is open places so that you'd be tempted to grab it, before you even think about the possibility of having to come back to that area later. The flags were often placed in places where you have to be quick and precise in your movements.

Despite the fact that this game was very fun, it still had its flaws. While the actually enemy ships were placed nicely, they were quite an annoyance. I feel like Dudki could have found better places to put them to decrease annoyance but still keep the level of difficulty.

I also feel like the game could be longer. Granted, if you don't now the right paths to take, the game could take a while. I still wish the game could have more length. It would have then had more replay value.

Last thoughts:

I enjoyed this game. It had it's flaws, but every game has those! It was feature worth for sure, and I'd love for dudki to make a sequel.
