Introduction:

Ohaider everyone, I'm here again to write you all another review. I do hope you guys don't get tired of my long reviews. (Are they long?) But, I think that they're long because I like rambling about random things in the middle of my reviews. (Here we go again..)I'd like to apologize for that. Let me try to summarize my review a bit more this time, unless you think that my reviews are already okay when it comes to its length. This time though, I'll be reviewing a not-so-popular member's, not-so-popular game called Behold. The title itself seems pretty quirky. I don't really know another way to describe this strange title, nor do I know what I'm supposed to be expecting from this game. Since, I barely know the member and his game making style. (Though, I have played some of his games due to the fact that he often posts on my review station on the forums.)I guess I'll find that out in this review.

Review:

Um, so I guess my first impression of Behold isn't all that great. My inner OCD side just sprang out of me again. The thumbnail, oh my. It's just too much. It's TOO messy. That alone made me want to just not play it. The thumbnail did not satisfy me at all. It's just this brown background with circles of different sizes and colors scattered around. I couldn't really find out what kind of game Behold was gonna be. When I finally opened the game, I discovered that it didn't come with a storyline. I don't really care if a game does have one or not. But if one does decide to have a storyline, they better make it good because I'm tired of seeing all those cliches. Even superhero movies with cliche storylines like Captain America bore me. Anyway, time to move on to the next category. But overall, my first impressions of this game aren't really that good. Let's hope that this game will prove me wrong about my not-so-good expectations.

The objective of this game was simple: you control this blue circle to get all the white circles to the black circle, but avoid the other black circles. Okay... That sounded pretty confusing the way I said it, but it's still simple. The first level to be honest though, felt too tedious. Yes, my objective was really, REALLY simple, but seriously? It could have been made simpler in some way since it was a sort of 'tutorial' level. I guess that's how I saw it since there were no hazards at all, but it just felt like a chore doing that first level since everything was so far away. Once you get to the second level though, the difficulty just skyrocketed from the first. It felt pretty unnatural and I feel like I've skipped about 3 levels because of the way the level difficulty transitioned. (Though, it still wasn't that difficult.)In my opinion it felt pretty 'cut off.' I don't really know how else I should be describing it since I can't really think of a word to describe this properly. Was the game addictive? I guess it was pretty addictive. But, my desire to give up and exit was actually stronger than my desire to want to try again and win. So I guess that wasn't able to compensate for that unnatural and messy feeling I get when I progress further into the game.

The placements were sort of decent, I guess. The hazards were difficult to dodge. But at times, I sort of wished that the white circles would be affected by another specific hazard and you, the blue circle, would be affected by this other hazard or something like that if you guys actually get what I'm trying to say. Health placements, I don't think there were any to begin with. Or maybe there were, but I guess I just missed it. I won't be minding that part though since I didn't see anything. I was not able to complete the game. But I was able to get to the second to the last level, so I guess I can say I got to see 90% of the game. And to be completely honest, the hazards were placed in good places, but it was just so messy. It felt exactly like the thumbnail, it was simply chaos. All those circles were placed so messily and it felt so uneven for some reason. This is how I would describe the mess: ASDFRTYUIJKL:"{} Overall, it was okay, but next time 5guy should try to make good but more organized placements.

The game design of Behold is pretty meh. Nothing's too special here. It just multi-colored circles with the same old background, but if you get further, you'll be able to see spikes as well. Nothing too interesting. They just seemed like colored and slightly re-made prefabs. I honestly think that there could have been a lot of improvements made and a lot of things fixed in Behold. Even the concept was pretty old. Even if a concept is old, one should know how to take advantage of this overused concept and spice it up. There are a lot of game creators that manage to do this and they manage to do it so well that you wouldn't even think it's old at all. 5guy failed to do that though. There are a lot of things one can actually do with this. I can think of so much things 5guy could have done to improve his game. The game does have potential, somehow. It just really needs to be tweaked here and there.

Ratings:

Creativity: _/_____

To be frank, I just didn't find Behold aesthetically pleasing nor creative at all.

Placements: ___/_____

The hazards were placed in good places, but it just felt too messy for me to be able to enjoy it.

Originality: _/_____

Didn't really find anything really new in this game.

Addictiveness: ___.5/_____

Addictiveness was okay, but it wasn't the most addictive game out there, to be honest.

Difficulty: ___.5/_____

It was difficulty was alright, but as stated earlier, I did not enjoy how the difficulty transitioned so oddly.

Overall: __.4/_____

Conclusion:

So my expectations I guess were at standard, but Behold wasn't able to really reach that standard that I had in mind. If someone would ask me if this was feature worthy, I don't think I'd answer them. (I'd probably just stare at you.) Just by judging by my ratings above, you can already see that it isn't. Overall, I think Behold is a game that could have been holding (Pun intended. You know, if it was actually funny in any way.)out a lot of potential, but 5guy should have tried to put a larger amount of effort in order for Behold to be an even better game. And 5guy, don't feel bad that your game got a pretty low score from me. I think you shouldn't see this review in a negative way, but view this review in a more positive way. Through this review, you'll see your weak and your strong points. You'll be able to know what things you should improve on and how to do it. My opinion may not really be 'correct' in your context, but it's just an opinion. If you really don't like it, don't mind it. Not everything I say is a fact. But 5guy, I want to see more games from you. Maybe the next time you ask me to review a game of yours, the outcome may be a lot better than this one. I'm sorry if my review is rather, short and not really on par with my other reviews. (Well, imo it is.) I decided to review this game because I think it presented a good challenge for me. As a reviewer, I want to be able to review a wide variety of games, not just games that are made by known members, or games that have already been featured. So yeah, thank you all again for reading this review. This is Mash, going to order some bacon pizza in a while. :D
