Quest Zone II is a game created by moolatycoon

Hello there, my name is R0llerc0aster and I'll be doing my debut review - parading one of the best games on the site, a game in the renowned Epic Game Library...

Quest Zone II.

This game was created by Moolatycoon, known for creating all kinds of games: albeit PPG, Shooter, but is most established and familiar with the Platform creator. Of course there were two halves of this project: The scenery was done my Mat7772; a.k.a. Matty, and those two created quite the dynamic duo. Both of them were more skilled with the Platformer creator, so it came no surprise to me when I saw the thumbnail: Blockhead, sitting there, pondering on the predicament he was in, blessed with gorgeous scenery and developed game-play. Let's see what these two authoritative creators had in store for us...

Pre-Thoughts

Before playing the game I quickly skimmed the comments. I saw people praising the innuendo, how fun it was, how much they enjoyed the overall game and saying "godbleepit I died on factory." That, to me, shows promise in addictiveness and gameplay.

Quest Zone II... quest... zone... Sound's familiar, doesn't it? Yes, I'm talking about the origin game, Quest Zone. Quest Zone was an incredible game. I had rather high expectations for Quest Zone II; as the original had become quite well-known on the site, earning itself a feature and a spot in the EGL. The EGL is only the best games, so I expected this one to be even better... And with those high expectations, I set my mouse on the thumbnail of of the beloved trilogy, and proceeded to play an epic...

Review

As I hovered my mouse over the screen; it quickly changed from the profile page of Moola to an even better page. The introduction of Quest Zone II. I thought to myself as I clicked play; if this will be even better. Will it be a diverting and enjoyable game like last time? Or will it decrease in quality, as the first one felt more genuine? I quickly realised I couldn't beat around the bush for much longer. I had a game to review. Of course it began with the classic intro, and gifted you with a long sword, (no pun intended) as I indulged into the elements of Quest Zone II. Stone, sand, volcano, ice, ocean, factory, and dreams. I immediately noticed that this intro was much better than the previous, so we were off to a good start. However, immediately I noticed the trademark platformer creator's default tile texture and wall texture, 119. Why it was there I don't know. But it only made a negligible fault in scenery as I like seeing something else, (looking at you, Butter), however it blended in with the grey/black scenery, so I was pretty fine with that.

As I progressed through the elements, I noticed one particular thing: The delivery. Moola promised an epic, and boy, did he deliver. He also stated, in his hype thread, there would be "at least one new puzzle each level". He followed through in that statement through, so instead of being an array of used puzzles, you had to use your logic and ingenuity with the creator to beat some of the puzzles. This wasn't all of the game, too. This game also included platforming (irony overload) in this platformer game. Another thing that stood out for me was the user-friendliness. It wasn't messy, at was all symmetrical; so it gave you something to look at whilst figuring out the conundrums and puzzles included in this game.

I'm not going to lie, this review is starting to sound like an advertisement. So far it's been all praise, hasn't it? Believe it or not, this game had its fair share of faults, albeit small ones, but here we go. For starters, back to the intro, it says something along the lines of 'ballbusting'. Ballbusting was an understatement, in my opinion. These puzzles were hard, sometimes too hard. Some of these puzzles should have something notifying you of what to do. I felt this was very cryptic in its explanation; it could have used some clarification.

Almost-perfect gameplay aside, this game had a flaw in gameplay. In one of the puzzles including bouncers, I got stuck trying to climb to the top and got stuck in a one-way door, inherently resulting in me ending the game due to a glitch. After an eternity of rage, I played again, progressing further and further.

Cons aside, this game felt like each level was a whole different game entirely. I think if you separated each level apart, and published them individually, they would still get featured. Each level interpreted a theme and colour scheme, making it even more diverse.

Conclusion

If I were to rank Quest Zone and Quest Zone II, I would personally put Quest Zone. It felt more original, creative and genuine. Quest Zone II had a near-perfect execution but lacked a deeming quality: originality. A sequel sometimes doesn't feel as better, unless it has something totally different about it. This game, once again, had you venturing throughout the elements, so it lacked that. Time to list out the pros and cons.

Pros:

User-friendliness

Diversity

Addictive

Cons:

Negligible faults in gameplay

Felt less genuine

Well, it looks like the Pros outnumber the cons, getting it off to a good start in the final ratings. Onward, to the scoring!

~Gameplay: 8.9/10

Puzzles: 9.2/10

Scenery: 9.8/10

Difficulty: 8.9/10

Addictiveness: 9.0/10~

After tallying the results, this game gets a grand total of:

Overall ~ 8.9/10

Quite a high score! Quest Zone II, despite its flaws, delivered an awe-inspiring, cohesive game. Scenery was brilliantly done by Matty, and Moola did very, very great in placement. It was worthy to both a feature AND a spot in the incredible EGL. It does come to believe that this is the final game in the two Quest Zones, and this dynamic duo presented an epic: both the category and adjective. Well done.

Well, this looks like it. Until next time, I bid you farewell, and I highly recommend playing this game.
