Venom is a game created by themexicancowboy

Skippity skop, whats poppin, doc? It's ya girl Shady back with another review, this time by themexicancowboy. This user only has two other games, one is a demo of this game, but I'm still gonna go in with high hopes because the thumbnail definitely looks interesting and caught my eye when I saw it. So, let's get into how this game holds up!

To begin with, I gotta discuss the gameplay. This game had me on my feet with every second. Enemies are everywhere and if you wanna do good, you gotta be ready for anything. The game is mostly action-based with very few puzzles and plenty of interesting traps that stay simple and unoriginal but are used in a creative way. I heavily enjoyed the fast-paced action that is all throughout the game because everything that kept me on my toes was actually fun. I had a great time looking ahead in the game and trying to anticipate what my ship would get itself into next.

With all these positives, there was one major negative that bothered me the whole time: the enemies themselves. The placement was horrible and there was so little variety that everything began to feel predictable. The most common enemy you'll find in this game is the Mortar, one of three stationary enemies that shoot stuff at you, and in the case of the Mortar, the infamous bombs. Themexicancowboy clearly has an understanding of how the Mortars work, seeing as each Mortar is actually placed decently and their placement makes a lot of sense when you really pay attention to it. However, there is way, and I mean WAY, too much of them. A few here and there are fine, but there are at least 15 of these in one small section.

The level design was rather basic but was actually utilized quite well. Usually with shooters, the creators will put spikes in the map for decoration. It's a simple design but it doesn't serve much purpose in most games except for looking pretty. Themexicancowboy takes this common idea and actually works it intro the game, with extra, but needed health in-between the spikes themselves. The main map was quite crowded however, which is fine but with the amount of enemies, a larger space for the player to move around in would have made the game much more enjoyable and accessible. Other than that, the map itself works pretty well.

Venom is a game I would probably recommend to people as a nice little shooter. Would I feature it? No, however if Themexicancowboy can fix the issues with the enemies, I could see him getting his name and game on that ever so desired Featured Games page. I see some potential here and considering the lack of games that Themexicancowboy has, I could see his take on the creator really going somewhere. Overall, I'm going to give this game a 6.5 out of 10. Keep your eye out for more from this creator; I certainly will.
