Lone Wolf Review #2

Disclaimer

This is my first review of a platform game, so it may not be up to my usual standard.

Pre-Thoughts

I didn't know quite what to expect from this game. I couldn't really glean anything from the title, Devastation, nor could I discern much from the thumbnail image. I hoped for a decent challenge, and this game delivered.

Game-Play

The game is rather simple. For the most part you are just pressing onward. The path branches only a few times, and they are small branches at that. (Always take the branches, by the way.) This game is short of puzzles, but not short of annoying hazards. You are more likely to be killed by lava or spikes than any enemy. The creator only put in one kind of enemy in the whole game, which if attacked correctly, can be defeated without taking any appreciable damage. My real problem with the enemies is that with careful aim you can take out the vast majority of them with the grenades you pick up at the beginning of the game. This takes away a lot of the game's challenge. Don't get me wrong, despite the less than stellar enemy set-up, this is still a fairly difficult game. It took me a few tries to finally beat it.

Post-Thoughts

When I finally beat this game I was satisfied. It gave me all I could handle. I was down to my last life and had about an eighth of my life remaining. The final gate was a welcome site. I was left wanting for an intellectual challenge. There wasn't any sort of puzzle in this game, but more so minor annoyances. I was killed twice bite well placed lava pools. Enemies only finished me once. There was a distinct lack of creativity. As I mentioned before, the game was largely a single path, and a pretty simple path to boot. Nonetheless, If you don't want to think and just have the urge to cut down a horde of enemies, this is the game for you.
