sky high is a game created by beast4321

Hello peoples. I am Articuno your friendly reviewer who is going to review Sky High by my good friend beast4321, who I will refer to as Beast in this review. If you are up-to-date with the review page, Im sure you are aware of who he is. Anyway, Im getting a little of track here. I had actually started a review of Sky High before the almighty Geoff gave me my badge. It was lost in my documents for a while before I found it a short while ago, and now that I have found it, I feel like I must finish it. So here it is. Without further ado, behold my review of Sky High by Beast. Enjoy!

Pre thoughts

When I first heard of Sky High, I had no idea what to expect. One never knows what would to expect from a boosted game, especially when it had been made by an obscure member (at the time). What made me think about playing it as soon as possible was the thumbnail, however. It was enticing and exciting, and it told me almost everything I needed to know about the game. Just one glimpse of it told me that it had been made with gallons of effort. But something steered me away from playing it, and yes it was in the thumbnail. Barrels. Bear in mind that I had no idea that this was a puzzle game at the time. I was under the impression that it was a fancy action game or an RPG. But then I clicked Sky High, read the description andwoah! It wasnt an action game at all, but a puzzle game? I naturally asked myself the following question immediately. Why should my health be lowered in a puzzle game? I will be in fights with little to no enemies, so why should I be blown up by barrels immediately? At this time I hadnt realised what the huge impact these barrels had on the gameplay was, or the way that these explosives ensured that the player had to be as careful as possible when executing a starting puzzle.

Review

So in Sky High, you are forced to do this you dont do in an average platformer. Backflipping from platform to platform, or getting a grenade to blow you Sky High, up to the platformer above. See that was what I was previously referring to. The barrels are there to do damage which keeps the players health just above the 50% mark. This means that you can only use ONE grenade to get you to the higher platform. You only have ONE chance. If you blow it (Haha see what I did there?) then you have to start again. Of course, that isnt all Sky High has to offer. You move around the map very differently compared to usual puzzle platformers. In usual puzzle games, you dont usually jump from platform to platform. This is because Beast has a style when it comes to game making. Although you dont get too excited when you hear you move around the map bouncing from platform to platform, when you get into it, it gets very addictive, and very enjoyable.

Sky Highs placement is okay. Even though the map is fairly large, there isnt much to say. The only thing which placement comes into effect is on the parkour. I think that the placement of the platforms are almost perfect, forcing the player to cautiously make their next step. However, it gets very repetitive when you have to backflip from one platform to a cliff. But this is as annoying as getting peanut butter stuck on the roof of your mouth as you often fall short by a small centimetre, and you have to start the entire sequence again, often falling a few more times. It gets very repetitive.

Sky High is a beautiful game when you properly take into account the scenery. Different tilesets to prevent overly consistent aesthetics and putting statues wherever it is appropriate. I feel like that Beast spent extra time and care, making sure that Sky High looks as amazing as possible. Even the thin pillars which keeps the platforms up in the sky (if this game was reality) have a huge role, just keeping the effort levels consistent. Even the wall tiles which reflects a shadow, all of the scenery in Sky High creates a marvellous and exciting atmosphere.

Overall Scores

Gameplay: 3.5/5

Scenery: 4.5/5

Placement: 3/5

Difficulty: 4.5/5

Overall: 3.5/5

3.5 may not seem like an amazing score at first glance, yet when it comes to this game in particular, you arent distracted by these factors. You are distracted by the intense fun, which keeps you playing and keeps your determination levels high. You are always hoping youre near the end, and when you realise that you actually have beaten the game, you feel pride and achievement. Even though this game is a 3.5 in my opinion, I feel like this was a great work, and Beast should be proud that it was his.

Thanks so much for reading my review, see you next time!
