Introduction

Welcome to my 54th review and my 50th [MR]. I'll be reviewing 'Ancient Pyramid' by sphnxgames, as he asked in the [MR] thread on the forums. Sphnxgames doesn't ring a bell to me, and he seems to be a pretty new member. Also, by the looks of things, this is his first plat, so I can't expect the game to be too good or anything. Well, this game could go either way, and you'll find out what my after thoughts of this game actually are if you carry on and read the review.

Review

Ancient Pyramid is the same old same old go around destroying enemies along straight paths and battle your way to the crystal. There are no twists or anything new to the game, just as what would of been expected for a member's first game. There is only one level as well, and it just seems to be full of a load of enemies bunched tight up together charging at you. The game play was poor and didn't have any thought put in to it.

The game is set in an ancient pyramid, funny that, isn't it? That's what makes this game creative really that he managed to make the game both look ancient and give it a pyramid style. You don't often see that at all. Sphnxgames added in ancient type of backgrounds as well to make the game look even more realistic, as well as the enemies being ancient type ones. The theme really does suit the title and that's what I like about what sphnxgames has done here.

The placements are very sloppy. I'll take the enemies for example. Sphnxgames seems to of just randomly chucked in enemies anywhere. I mean one minute I'm avoiding an Archie with mongols blocking my way and the next second I'm being attacked by a kickyucho or whatever they're called (I'm talking about those massive people with the swords here) straight after. The enemies were bunched right together and I can easily jump over them. And oh yes, that's another thing, the block placement is bad since the roofs are high up in those sort of situations and there's nothing that they really do to try and stop you or anything. All they seem to be there for is to actually keep the player, enemies or whatever on the platform. I'm always landing on enemies heads as well, and that is due to the block placement because there could be some blocks to stop the enemy get there, and because the enemy is placed to close to wherever the drop is.

From negative to positive, I am now going to talk about why this game had a lot of action. And that is because I am always destroying enemies. You can never really keep the player still in Ancient Pyramid, all due to the enemies constantly attacking you. It is possible to make games action packed though without placing too many enemies, and I actually prefer to see that. But the action pot doesn't care about placement pot, and as long as he's got a high score, then he's happy.

Ancient Pyramid wasn't really made challenging at all. I know I didn't complete the game, but I easily got very far and very quickly near the end of the game on my first try. And it isn't the fact that there are challenging things in the way in the game, it's that there is too little health. So it means that if you beat this game, it's caused by luck.

Is this game feature worthy?

The big question though is "Is this game feature worthy?" In my opinion, no it isn't. Yes it was action packed, and yes it was pretty creative, but apart from that, nothing really made the game actually good. The placements and game play were both poor and it's hardly challenging at all. No doubt really for someone's first game.
