Whats sagacity mean? How the hell should I know? Welcome to one of my shallow attempts to make my reviewer badge useful and dissect and discus a game that grabbed my immediate attention. Now if you know Crunchynuts style of Sploder gaming then you would know that the thumbnail for this game would be somewhat appealing to the delicious cereal, and thus Crunchynut shall deliver his mental process when playing Just One Moment by 0minutes.

To point out I think this game may have been part of EGD, to which I shall mention I am not associated with in any way and will be reviewing this game out of free will. So lets begin!

Since I have already brought it up I will kick start the review with the theme of the game (to me thumbnails are a big part of the theme and direction of the game). Originally I thought I was spawning in some sort of ocean, oh how wrong I was. I think I was on an island, or a rock, the sky maybe? Wherever this is set it's blue, is abundant with trees and rocks, and has a jail. Ill go with island (I bet it 0minutes told me in the first text but I have forgotten it already, silly me). No matter the setting the atmosphere was electric and if this game had more depth I feel I could have easily become immersed into it's impressive dialogue, and real-life setting. Still can't figure out why the map is blue though. I aint hatin. There have been some creative scenarios, including a cute little jail scene which I particularly liked, however this jail housed a spider? No wonder it looked abandoned.

So, as Sploder starts to modernize and game creators evolve how does this game hold up to the adjacent shooters upon recent release? Honestly not as good as I had hoped. First this game had a redundant difficulty progression, it was there but never got harder than Brazil's football team, zing! This is punished even further by the not so lengthy span of the game, you can literally speed run though the whole game without a hindrance in about two minutes. The final boss was also very anti-climatic, as you can literally traverse straight past the cluster of ship spawners with ease. HOWEVER I will give credit to the good variety of enemy sprites and powerups that were placed throughout. Even though this game is wickedly easy there is never really a dull moment. So variety is what is keeping 0minutes head above the water as of this point in the review. There were generally no traps in this game, the worst you would find would be some hidden TNT, but nothing even remotely fear inducing. What enemies there were in this game can nearly all be defeated (without health loss) with a little patience and love. Honestly this was a big no no for me as there was very little replay value in the fight sequences, and for this type of shooter you really want to nail this one on the head. I don't agree that this game should have been featured due to these very reasons, all these aspects are nearly there, but overall wasn't enough to really make this game a great game. Ideally this game should have been longer, had more fruitful and exciting action sequences, and more thought out player interaction with the map (puzzles, traps etc). However there are other pressing gameplay features, what about the main goal of the game? Well story wise you have to escape the......island? To do this you must collect a flag (a pointless en-devour) as well as a crystal. These in themselves are in no way exciting, and sadly 0minutes did nothing to spice them up either. So unless you were enthralled by the dialogue, winning the game didn't feel like much of an amazing feat.

Okay so I think I have butchered the gameplay of the game enough, so what other aspects of the game do we need to discuss? First I did find very very slight lag in certain spots throughout the game. Nothing devastating, but it's there and as we all no lag is a big cross. This game did not contain puzzles, so we can assume to say this was on purpose which it completely fine, no point deduction there. A tip however would be to incorporate exciting ways to enter new areas, whether it be done via puzzle or trap. Just a tip, thank me later. The game itself did showcase a creative use with the Shooter, it was charming in itself and with more effort could have been a really fun game. Which brings me to my next point, did I have fun playing Just One Moment? Honestly yes I did, this aspect of a game seems to be lost in time for Sploder, people define their games as "new" and "revolutionary" but they all lack that defining feature of being fun (which is the purpose for a game is it not?). Admittedly the game has no replay value, however in one or two goes I assure you that it will be an enjoyable ride.

The Tally Board

Lag - 7/10

Enemy placement - 5/10

Sprite diversity - 8/10

Difficulty - 2/10

Progression - 4/10

Atmosphere - 8/10

Storyline - 7/10

Replay value - 1/10

Overall - 42/80

Personal rating - Average

Summary

A cute little game that showcased some interesting ideas and story, but lacked the driving force that is the gameplay. A short and un-action packed map that you will probably play once and will complete in about 4 minutes. I see a lot of potential in 0minutes Shooters, so keep on tryin son!
