The plague (also known as the black death) was a deadly illness which inspired the eerie nursery rhyme, 'ring-a-ring-a-roses'. The reason people say bless you now, is because in that time, if you sneezed or coughed, it meant that you had some kind of illness. Of course,curing it would not be half as easy as that!
