Introduction

Hey guys, Demonxz95 back at it, this time with a serious review. Today, we're reviewing Solar Sniper 2.0 A Newer Era by ever so famous game creator on the MS and Lieutenant on the forums, Shadross. Shadross has been known for making spectacular PPG creations and a few platformers as well. Solar Sniper 2.0 is a remake of Gunman 4 with Solar Sniper instead of Gunman. Now, let's get into the review.

Review

After a pretty cool title screen, we're thrown into the meat into the game. As a Solar Sniper naturally would be, the game is about some random dude in a mechanical suit using the sun's energy to shoot, which means no shooting in the shadows. It is similar to the mechanics used in the first Solar Sniper game but a bit different. In the first Solar Sniper game, you would take damage if you shot a bullet while standing outside of the suns energy. Fortunately, that problem doesn't exist here.

After an introduction level, already first boss. I would like to mention that the first few bosses are really easy. This first one is easy but also pretty annoying because you can't get close to it and the boss likes to hide its weakspot a lot, but I guess that keeps it from being a breeze. The second boss, while clever with the mechanics is very easy as well. Just keep spamming the mouse and there you go, boss done.

Something I'm not particularly a fan of is in level 6, there is a bit of cheap enemy placement. At the start of that level, if you run out of the starting area immediately, you will get hit twice guaranteed, which becomes really problematic because you have only one hit left if this happens and there will be some more enemies that will require some thinking to get past, and then there's those turrets. These things are like that one barrel in Carnival Night Zone Act 2 in Sonic 3, if you're unaware of a certain trick, it's going to take forever to figure out. I tried jumping above the ceiling to bypass the turrets but that didn't work. Fortunately, Shadross does provide a walkthrough of this game.

This game is quite repetitive, being a lot of just grabbing switches, killing a few enemies, grabbing the red sphere and occasionally shooting some floating torches. The bosses however were quite unique, although fairly easy, except for the final boss. At first, I thought I would have to guide the floating skull guys into him, but no. It's much more complicated than that. I actually watched the walkthrough to see what to do and I decided to just not do it.

Scores

Well, I guess here we go with scores.

Creativity: _____/_____

Addictiveness: _____/_____

Thumbnail: _____/_____

Gameplay: ___ .5/_____

Placement: ____ .5/_____

Scenery: _____/_____

Overall: ____/_____

Tbh, that's higher than I thought it was going to be. But I guess the problems are because of Sploder's limitation and not so much the creator himself.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Solid gameplay

Cons

Repetitive and drags on as the game goes on.

A few enemies are not exactly the most well placed.

Easy, but annoying boss levels.

Conclusion

So, I guess that concludes it for this review. While this game is not a master in every category, it is an enjoyable experience that looks really well in terms of design. You should try it. Demonxz95 out!
