Pre-Thoughts:

So this is my first review, and is there a better way to start off your reviewing career, than reviewing an EGD game? I certainly don't think so. This being an EGD entry, I instantly thought and expected that this was going to be an epic and challenging game with lots of excellent gameplay and puzzles. At least that's what i've been seeing in most of the EGD game entries. I don't know much about the creator of this game, patelio03 or his collaboration partner Minebreaker, but I have played a few of his games and I know that he shows great talent when it comes to making platformers.

Looking at the thumbnail, I just knew that this game was going to be an extreme challenge, so I prepared myself for everything. You can see several enemies right above you aswell as multiple traps and switches on both sides. I knew from the very beginning that this game was going to take time to get further into, but also that it hopefully would be quite enjoyable at the same time. The thumbnail is a good way to tell player what kind of game this is going to be. Well, enough about the thumbnail, let's get into the fun stuff.

Review:

I can totally see why .Misty Shadows. made it into the EGD competition. This is probably one of the greatest platformers I have played in quite a while. It is truly an amazing game worthy of its attention. While there being a good amount of action, the game is filled with cool and interesting puzzles with a lot of traps in between, all of which helped make this an addictive, challenging and ejoyable game. I'm still as of today trying over and over to get further into this game, but always end up dying. The game just keeps throwing something at you. If it's not enemies, its a puzzle or some kind of trap. During the whole game you need to stay on your toes and be careful of where you move, and how you do it, since a wrong move may end up killing you, or at least draining a lot of your health away. This game is really easy to die in if your not careful, but you also need to have quick reflexes if you want to get past certain points. Especially the beginning can easily end the game quickly if you don't react fast.

So, let's talk a little bit about the puzzles in this game. As I said before, this game has an amazing set of difficult puzzles, that you need to get through in order to progress further. I like the puzzles that has been used in this game. There were a couple that i have seen used before, but most of them were placed in a cool and different way, and was well-suited to this game so you wouldn't really notice it. Every puzzle was possible and some could really get you thinking and that is, for me, a successful puzzle. The placement of the traps and hazards also made some of the puzzles a challenge to complete.

A few traps is always important in any game. They can really add alot to the overall gameplay, and .Misty Shadows. contains a great number of traps. I have died countless times because of weak-blocks or lava which made me rage, and the traps played a really big role in this game since they were what added most of the challenges. Many of the traps could also drain your life down pretty quickly, so you should be really quick on your toes if you fell in one. Overall, the traps were put nicely together and I think alot of time has been used to place traps in the right spots.

.Misty Shadows. is a very action-packed game. During the game you will almost constantly be facing an enemy and other hazards, which combined with puzzles and traps really rose the difficulty of this game. The action in this game also kept the fun going and the enemies were placed well to keep the player focused, and not give them too much rest. Putting many different enemies in a game can be really useful for giving the player some trouble getting through objectives, but at some places, the number of hazards could get out of hand, and made it hard to survive.

Now, let's talk about the fantastic scenery. The scenery is truly amazing. I understand why the game is in 8-bit mode because all those objects and tiles everywhere would make the game a massive lag spike, and probably in no-lighting effects too. I really like the time that has been put into the scenery of this game. I saw around 15 different tiles, and they all combined together perfectly and made the environment look so much better. I personally think that this is some of the greatest scenery I have ever seen. You can easily assume that alot of time has been put into making the scenery, and it truly looks great. I was surprised that the game didn't even lag a tiny bit with all those details the game contains.

Now, what about the placement in this game? Placement is always important, and bad placement can result in a poor game. I think that everything has been placed very well in this game. I experienced minor parts of the game that had a very crowded space but most of the areas were accessible. Not only the blocks, but also enemies and puzzles. Most of the enemies were placed so you had no choice but to fight them. The puzzles worked perfectly and the placement was flawless.

Pros/Cons

Pros:

Puzzles: Fun and exciting puzzles, which were placed perfectly and could cause you to think.

Traps: Alot of challenge was added to the game because of the big number of traps that were placed, many of which being easy to fall for.

Action: The game contained a lot of action, keeping the player concentrating, and making the overall game harder.

Scenery: Absolutely beautiful scenery, lots of back-tiles and decoration which really made the game something to look at.

Block Placement: Nicely placed tiles, not too many objects were placed that badly, and most of the objects weren't uneeded.

Cons:

Thumbnail: Although, a good-looking thumbnail, I think it tells you a little too much about the kind of game this is.

These are probably the best ratings I have ever given a game, but it is an EGD entry, and .Misty Shadows. is probably one of the best platformers I have ever played, going from good amounts of action, exciting puzzles and magnificent scenery. I had a lot of fun playing this great game and it definitely deserves to be in the EGD.

Feature worthy?

Yes it is. Definitely. This game is addicting and fun. Alot of people will enjoy this game, because it is really well-made. You can just tell that it has taken time to create this fantastic piece.
