Pre-thoughts

Heya Sploder fans, Good ol' Dudki is back with yet, another review. Now, I think there's been alot of great games available nowadays, and there's been alot which caught my interest. I'm starting to get really interested in blackhole's games since he knows how to make a great game, and has earned himself a couple of features for his work, so when I saw that he had recently released a new Physics game, I had to give it a go.

I must say, upon looking at the thumbnail, it looked quite alot like Helping Hands, another game which blackhole created using the PPG, but since I already knew about this game beforehand, I did know that it wasn't going to be like that game. Still, a visually appealing thumbnail. Now, what about the game as a whole? Let's go deeper into this game and see what exactly it has to offer you.

Review

Out of all blackhole's games, Escape is definitely one of my favorites, because this game, really shows off blackhole's talent. Well, the concept itself is pretty unique, and the layout and progress of each level was pretty neat, and the puzzles he used have been nicely layed out. Escape also features some of the most awesome and action packed boss battles that I've ever seen in a Physics game, which made it all a whole lot better.

Escape is a very puzzling game. Most of the puzzles consists of finding switches and keys to unlock pathways. A pretty simple objective, but quickly gets more and more tricky to do. In Escape, the puzzles develop from being pretty simple, and slowly getting more and more challenging, especially in the last few levels, requiring alot of patience from the player.

During each level, you will be facing different hazards, most of them being skulls and walls. These does a good job in keeping the player on his toes and adds a challenge to the game. In the later levels you are also up against alot of walls, which forces the player to move carefully.

Honestly, you can't say too much about the scenery of this game. Afterall, it was a white playfield with a black background, but I really think that look suits this game, and adding various smaller details to the playfield would ruin this look, so to sum it up, I really liked how the game looked.

This game also showed some very nice placement. I think everything was layed out perfectly. I only saw minor obstacles which could have used some improvements, but overall, blackhole placed his objects well in this game.

Now to finish it off, this game ended up being way beyond my expectations. I really enjoyed it. Blackhole showed skill in the making of Escape, and I must commend him for that. A unique concept with tricky puzzles, aswell as obstacles to add that extra challenge.

Pros/Cons

Pros:

Thumbnail: The game had a neat little thumbnail, which catches the player's interest, and makes the game look more proffesional.

Gameplay: Overall, I liked the gameplay of this game. It has a unique concept, and is very original.

Puzzles: Some very nice puzzles were used in this game, which really raised the overall score of the game.

Hazards: This game featured alot of hazards, which helped in increasing the difficulty of each individual level.

Scenery: The playfield and the background looks very well together, and suits the theme of the game.

Placement: Most of the shapes and objects in this game were placed very nicely.

Cons:

Yes, this game does not have any cons in my opinion. There wasn't anything that I particularly hated about the game.

Ratings

Gameplay: 5/5

Difficulty: 4.5/5

Puzzles: 4/5

Scenery: 4/5

Placement: 4.5/5

Creativity: 5/5

Overall: 4/5

For me, this game is almost perfect. It is very fun. It's unique and it's challenging, without adding that Rage-Quit difficulty setting to it. A very good game indeed.

Feature-worhty?

To be honest, I'm surprised none of blackhole's PPG's have made a feature, because he clearly has alot of skill in making them. I definitely think that the Editor's should have a go at this game, because it is honestly worthy of a feature.
