Pre-Thoughts

Merry Christmas everyone! Okay, it might not be Christmas yet, but it's close, right? Okay, never mind. It's EpicO here, back with my 13th review in total. I realized that I haven't reviewed in a while, so I thought I might as well let time pass by through writing a review! Anyway, I posted a thread on the forums about this, and the first game I accepted to review was X1X, a PPG game made by gerald123. I was here when Gerald first published X1X. Back then, I was incredibly hyped to play the game. At the time, it wasn't his best game. When I heard that Gerald was going to edit the game and re-publish it, I was quite excited to play the game. Before playing the game however, I quickly scammed across the thumbnail. I think the thumbnail was designed quite well; it shows off Geralds artistic skills in the PPG creator. Through this game, I expect good puzzles, great scenery and unique gameplay. However, did the game exceed the targets?

Review

I found the game-play very interesting. It began quite easy, so a lot of people could probably get past the first level (excluding the intro). Then throughout the game, the levels got gradually harder, as they added harder puzzles, more enemies and more challenging skills that you need to use. I quite like X1X's unique style. It introduces a few new puzzles with require skills and a lot of thinking. In each level, it had even harder puzzles to challenge you. Additionally, to make it even harder, gerald added a few enemies in the later levels to challenge you even more. I reckon that the game-play has enough content to keep you excited throughout the game. To finish it off, X1X ended with a boss battle. The boss was quite difficult to manage, as you had to complete the tasks you had to do to be able to win was well as avoiding being hit by some of the enemies. In the walkthrough, Gerald made it seem like a piece of cake.

The scenery was outstanding. This also shows off Geralds artistic skills in the PPG creator. Additionally, the graphics used in the game were above average. In fact, way above average. For some people, it's quite difficult to create a wonderful scenery in the PPG creator, such as this. It's quite obvious that Gerald took his time to generate and original, story related scenery with it eye catching. Adding on to this, the thumbnail was well presented, and it pleasing to the eye. As soon as I took a glimpse at the thumbnail, I automatically wanted to play the game.

Now to move on to one of the most interesting parts of X1X: the puzzles. As I mentioned in the game-play paragraph, the puzzles were quite interesting. In the first game-play level, the game helped you with what you had to do, and then it was just individual work. When I got to the individuality part, I had to think about how to solve the puzzles before carrying on. Eventually, I needed to use the walkthrough, but that's not the point. The reasoning of this is because these were puzzles that I haven't seen before, and were completely original. The puzzles featured moving crates, and switching characters, through finding them with different items scattered around the levels. These are in some cases unique puzzles, which Gerald flooded the game with. However, at some points, the puzzles got quite boring, and a little repetitive in my opinion.

X1X is quite a difficult game. It features unique puzzles, as well as a few enemies appearing from time to time, and eventually at the end of the game, a boss battle. As I've already mentioned, the games difficulty slowly increased from the start right to the very end. I quite like this as it's easily playable at the start, so people can get into the game, and it slowly increases to give the people who are playing the game an extra challenge. X1X included different obstacles and enemies as well, which will give you even more of a challenge.

Conclusion

In my opinion, I think X1X deserves a 4/5. A lot of the points in this game were amazing, but sometimes it got boring, and the puzzles got somewhat repetitive. Nonetheless, it still deserves a feature, no doubt. It's not EGL worthy, but definitely feature worthy. I recommend you play this game, because you'll enjoy it.
