Pre-Thoughts

Digging is hard when you're searching for something. You see, I looked on a website called sploder.com (I don't know if you've heard of it before, but it's a great website. I recommend you try it out# and apparently, you can find deserts underground. So, when I went out on my digging adventure, I found nothing. Is this just like a myth? An old hags tale? Anyway, I got this assumption from this game, it's called Underground desert, by amdri. Amdri is a somewhat unknown member to many of you guys out there, but not on the forums. He's not very known for his game making, more for just being an awesome guy in general. When I found a game of his, I was sat there shocked. I wanted to see what it's about. Unfortunately, I can't expect much from a guy I don't remember for his games, but hopefully, this game will bring something good.

Review

The gameplay was alright, I guess. When I first had a look at the thumbnail, it seemed like a sort of adventure game. However, when I played the game, I was confused of what genre it was. Is it adventure? Puzzle? It seemed like a somewhat pleasant mixture of the 2. However, there wasn't too much going on in the game, and it seemed quite easy. Though, when something was going on, it was pleasant to see. I'm sorry, amdri, but it was just easy, and it bored me. Though, it was nice to see some puzzles involved. These puzzles were just unoriginal, overly seen puzzles that you can easily complete, since they've been in a lot of games. However, like I said before, it was nice to see them. I'm sorry, man, but this has a lot of room for improvement.

Well, all I can say is that it was just pretty basic. There wasn't anything too great involved. All amdri really used was the basic background for the tile that he used for the floor and other things. Unfortunately, that was all there really was to it. I would have hoped for more than just that. I mean, it's just boring. Though, I would've expected this, and not just because I haven't really seen much from amdri. It's because the game's underground, and since it's underground, there's an automatic darkness effect added. I guess maybe amdri just left the background like that because since it's dark, it wouldn't be noticed as much. If this is the case, nice try. If not, then I'd expect more from it. Again, this area needs a lot more work.

In my opinion, the placements in Underground desert were actually pretty decent. Nothing really felt too out of place, and it's not one of those incredibly cramped games where you can hardly move, and when you do, they have to be a precise movement. At some places though, it did seem somewhat sloppy. At some occasions, #level 2 to be a prime example# amdri decided to place an enemy EXACTLY after avoiding a hazard. To be honest, that was a bad, bad move. As much as it increases the difficulty, it just seems like too much at once. Maybe if he spread it out more, and added more to it instead of the very few pieces of action I found, it'd make the game better. I'd also like to comment on the amount of space was left out. In Underground desert, I noticed that a lot of space that could have possibly been used to make the game better was just left out. Amdri, you could've; used that space for the better of your game. If you didn't want to use it, you could always decrease the amount of space.

Now for those puzzles. Like I mentioned before, they were pretty much all just unoriginal puzzles that you could find in MANY puzzle games out there. They were simple, and got me quite bored to be honest. If amdri could've thought of more original, unique and new puzzles, that would've been a nice thing to see. Amdri! You know that empty space I was talking about? Well, you could've used that dang useless space for more puzzles possibly. Seriously, it would've made the game better. So, yeah. It was nice to be able to see some puzzles, but they were just those overly used ones. Make 'em more original next time, amdri! Adding on to this, when I played through the game, I noticed some of the key puzzles. It seems like amdri didn't know that the keys for the doors passed through each level that you play through. This, in further levels, made Underground desert shorter than it should've been, as it was too simple to get the keys. I'm hoping this was just a simple rookie mistake.

Pros

Umm....

Seriously though, there was no lag,

It was nice to see some puzzles,

The placements weren't to sloppy.

Cons

The puzzles were simple,

The scenery was plain and boring,

The gameplay was somewhat boring and didn't keep me entertained too well,

It was too easy.

Conclusion

So, overall, I think that Underground desert is a pretty simple, somewhat boring game, although it is quite entertaining when there's actually something going on. I wouldn't say it's feature worthy. No, not by a long shot. Though, if amdri follows my guidelines and improves this on his next game, his skills should have improved. Sorry if I was too hard on you, amdri, but I was giving my opinion and showing you how you should improve.

That concludes my 15th review #if you guys don't know, I'm EpicOrange789) and my first for ASG! See you next time!
