Pre-Thoughts

The PPG maker has a lot of potential (just thought I'd mention, just in case you haven't realized it yet and you need to rub whatever you have in your eyes out. Either that or you've never read my reviews), and there's quite a lot of it that is undiscovered. If you have a look at some of the higher class PPG makers, such as tbremise and gerald123, you will see the advancement in their games, and they are completely different than games from the other creators. Jumpie is a game which shows this clearly. If you didn't know already, Jumpie was the winner of Game of the Year 2014, which is a huge achievement, especially for a game maker like Makever, who isn't consistent in making games like this. But, since it got this result, it must have something great about it. Having a quick view of the thumbnail, you see an eye-pleasing scenery which clearly shows that makever has made a great attempt at making this game look appealing. Hopefully, that's not all the game has to offer.

Review

Since it's pretty much the first thing we're introduced to in the game, let's start off with the story. The was it was set out was pretty decent; it had some nice graphics to go along with the particular section of the plot, and they were very nicely made with a lot of detail. Cute graphics to go along with a cute plot for a cute game, how cute. But what wasn't cute was how it was all crammed together. In my opinion, it would be much better if either the text was their for longer, or there was less text in each section; if you're a slow reader, like me, you'll probably find it hard to read all the text in the short amount of time you have. Oh, and grammar errors upset me. However, it was a relatively nice layout which isn't always used in games. It also gives you the option to skip, which was a nice touch for people who really don't care.

Now for the story itself: you're a bunny who wants carrots that were stolen by mean little bunnies who are way too jealous. The story flows well with the concept, and it wasn't over-the-top dramatic. Makever kept a nice, simple story which fits really well with Jumpie's concept, and that is one of the aspects I love about this game.

Basically, Jumpie relies on 2 keys: Up and W. Those 2 keys control the direction of movement when jumping. This allows you to attempt a range of different puzzles and platforming sequences as well as avoiding a few traps. Basically, a regular old bunny bouncing and hopping about in it's happy life, just with a bit of a twist. Clearly not the generic bunnies life (I never knew bunnies had the intelligence to climb, never mind solve puzzles). Everything here has some form of relation to a normal bunnies life. Well, that was until you were given the ability to shoot. Sure, this adds a few more puzzles in and it can make the game more enjoyable, but it turned the bunny from a regular bunny finding carrots to an abnormal psychotic bunny who's desperate for the carrots. However, he can't really be that desperate; the gameplay isn't really the fastest. Though, I don't think there's anything that makever can do about that. Aside from these few flaws, makever clearly spent a lot of time working on the game to make it enjoyable and difficult at the same, and the concept was well executed.

It doesn't take a genius to see that the visual appearance of Jumpie is a strong point. Every single level has a nice design to it which is different from the other levels, and it's nice to see something different. Not only that, but the scenery also has relevance to the puzzles in Jumpie, and that was pretty nice to see. If you actually play/you have already played the game, you will see yourself interacting with the scenery, whether it's for finding clues or solving puzzles. It's clear to see now that makever tried to make Jumpie look professional, and he succeeded in it. But, it's not only the level design that was amazing - the graphics were made to a great standard. If you take the minute or so to read the story, you'll see that there are some cute graphics aside from the actual story itself. If you don't agree that those were VERY well designed, then you need to have an eye test. Maybe you might need glasses. It might even be a good idea to get laser eye surgery. Additionally, the enemies all looked very nice, which proves clearly that makever has done a great job at keeping his game pleasing to the eye.

The puzzles in Jumpie are quite creative, whether they relate to the story itself, they use lives or the scenery is involved. Makever has obviously tried to make his game as interesting as possible. One nice thing about the puzzles is that it doesn't take long to figure out what to do. I'm not really that fond of games which have these completely unique puzzles which take a long time to solve, and then you move on to the next one which is even worse, so it's a relief that this wasn't a problem here. But, either way, they were really creative and enjoyable. One thing I didn't understand (which is already mentioned, by the way) is why a regular bunny that just wants his carrots back can shoot things. Makever started the game off with a regular bunny which does anything to get carrots back that it actually can do, but then it's given the ability to aim and fire at enemies? That's one supernatural bunny here.

Conclusion

Considering makever is a relatively new member who isn't consistent in making games like Jumpie, this is an outstanding game, and he should be very proud of the result. This game was voted Game of the Year 2014 by the forums, and there is a clear reason to why this is. I recommend that you play this game as soon as you can. If you've already played it, try your best to get further in it, because if you don't, you'll most likely regret it.
