NOIS Legacy II. Dragons is a game created by neerg

Change your little drawers cause’ your pants are sagging! Ahhh, Low End Theory references aside, it’s GnashtyNaS here for my first review. As this is my first review, I see it fair to give you a rundown of my steelo (style if you aren’t familiar with urban slang). If a game is bad, I say it is bad, and vice versa, I don’t plan on sugar coating things and I don’t plan on using soft forgiving language to make myself sound nice because I am very critical of others. And that is why I’m reviewing games, because you all must know the truth. I plan to give it to you. That said; let’s start talking about today’s subject matter.

I am reviewing NOIS Legacy II. Dragons by neerg. As I found this game on the featured page, I expected your typical grueling difficulty game of moderate length, because let’s be honest, that is usually what is featured. You don’t see all the editors jumping up and down screaming: “Hey! This flower patch is just peachy to walk through!” No…that doesn't happen, and quite frankly if it did, I’d be concerned and spamming Geoff about his staff’s peculiar problems. Legacy 2 has a fairly ugly full name and its thumbnail is little for subject matter, so let’s move onto some more important aspects of this experience.

Since the title mentions dragons, I kind of expected some sort of castle looks in the game, I expected to perhaps be going through a castle…but that expectation was not met. This game doesn't resemble medieval architectural styles at all as I was and you may be envisioning. Legacy 2 is a simple PPG 2D Platforming game. It’s got a story…sort of. You have to get this Green power and this Yellow power to combine into the power of NOIS and that enables you to storm the big evil dragon’s crib. Now if you didn't understand a bit of that you’re not alone. I don’t know what this story really is, but basically you've got to kill a dragon…and there isn't much of a reason for it as far as my eyes can see. You play as a blue guy with a black vest. That is all I know about the character you play as. To make this character less of a character, he has no animation. None…so I guess you don’t play the game in a castle…as castles were made from stone, bricks, and sometimes even wood, but never ice…and Mr. Blue Guy is ice skating throughout the game…so no, not a castle. The controls are straightforward for platforming, zero unique concepts.

The visuals in this game are extremely minimalistic; however it pulled off the minimalistic look decently. It didn’t look lazy; it simply looked like a visual preference. Each level has a colored theme, and you see little more than various shades of that color. It looked nice, and was different from the everyday game visuals to enter your retinae. That said, I can’t over-credit what could very well be lucky laziness, because it wasn’t creative, and it is clear there wasn’t much focused work put into it. The final boss was a dragon graphic that looked…laughable. The fight itself was sub-par, and the only part I failed to complete. It’s mostly a bunch of button mashing and praying.

The game seemed like it was trying to tell a pretty cryptic story. That is the kind of thing I would expect a lot of crazy obstacles to go well with, but you might as well flip that TRESPASSING sign over and write: “WELCOME” because this game doesn’t put much in your way. You get a bunch of unoriginal, mediocre platforming and maybe once in the game, the first level no less, you enjoy a little more than just jumping over gaps, there is actually something else impeding your progress. Nothing creative mind you, but something different. And as opposed to stacking more obstacles on top of that as the game goes on to increase difficulty, it just does nothing even semi-notable for the rest of the game, which leaves you wondering why it was featured during the duration of the game.

It is worth noting, that despite the lack of obstacles and creativity in this game, it is a bit of a challenge. The openness of the platforming and some okay design makes for a handful of challenging moments, most of which though can easily be overcome with a touch of care. The only person who has beaten this game is on the leader-boards with a time of 20:00, the max time capable of being displayed. Don’t let that confuse you, as this game is not very long. It has three platforming levels and a boss, nothing more of substance. So it doesn't have much to offer, surely it couldn't make a song of its offerings like Mark Oliver Everett did in the song: “What I Have to Offer”. And again, what it does have to offer is mediocre at best.

The Wrap-Up

This game is hard for me to talk ill of and point out all of its flaws because surprisingly…I enjoyed this game a fair amount. In the end, all of this game’s flaws lead to a nifty experience you don’t see every day. And it is the exact length you would want it, it doesn't end sweetly, and it doesn't do anything special…but that is really what is special about it. However, the fact that it had virtually no real substance besides just jumping killed it from being anything notable. But I hope this teaches us all a lesson, it isn't being different that is important; instead it is being yourself that is important.

Feature Worthy: No, it lacks the qualities a featured game should have. I’d feature it…but that is why I’m not an editor. But I’m glad whoever did feature it did, because I like it!

A cool platforming game that got a feature, it is a handful of fun.
