Hai everybody and welcome to my review on TheUndead101's game ~The Undead Revolution~! I don't care Demon already reviewed it, I'm going to write longer paragraphs and analyze it deeper so you should love mine more or ill burn you with my stove you got it? Anywho TheUndead has been making mostly Mario spin off games and generic stuff with cool graphics that most mainsite ppg users do, but this time he's decided to take a crack at something a little more original. Now he's been pming me about the process of his game but to be honest with you I hadn't been paying too much attention to it. Today I noticed Demon's review and I decided to play it, resulting in my actually beating it in about 12 minutes. Was it the most stunning game I've ever played? No, but it was pretty fun, so essentially this review is to determine whether or not I want to feature it, so give me 5 minutes of your time to listen to me ramble on about this game.

If there is one thing that this game accels at the most its the aesthetics. I know a lot of people are good at making graphics but TheUndead has arranged them in a way that is pleasing. You can tell he spent a lot of time on the look of the game, and to my knowledge there are no prefabs just lying about in their ugly prefab form. There are also subtle nods to the platformer creator, which was just really cool. Every platform was textured and none of the graphics looked out of place, everything was themed pretty well, and you could tell what type of environment you were in. I can also appreciate the fact that he put himself in his own game, really just showing his personality through his work. Going along with this all of the enemies and their balls (of the fire kind) are pretty cool too. If I had one complaint its that the environment doesn't change enough for me, like it kind of just goes from cave to hell themed (?). All of the cave levels pretty much look the same at a base point (they all of the same back textures), so its kind of difficult to see level progression. I feel like if Theundead mixed up the levels a bit more it would be more interesting to look at - note that this does not detract from the graphical quality of the scenery, just that it gets a little boring after 4 or 5 levels of it.

Gameplay wise this runs pretty simple. You just need to get from Point A to Point B by platforming through the level and avoiding enemies. Sometimes Theundead mixes it up and forces you to find switches, secret caves, and even some backtracking. While the formula is pretty generic as far as ppg platformers go I feel like Theundead executed it pretty well. At no point in the playing of this game was I genuinely bored because there is usually always something to do, always an enemy to avoid, a trap to jump over, or a switch to hit, which keeps me engaged. I can appreciate that this is a shorter game, at least for me it was. It still is an issue that the game was pretty standard still, since the ppg has a world of possibilities for you to do and I would have at least expected a proper boss fight at the end (it was a little disappointing) but these are minor complaints. The game has its niche, albeit a generic one, but what it does do, it does well above others in the ppg platformer category.

I know a major complaint with this game were the traps, the excessive amount of them, and how cheap they were. I for one disagree with this, when I played through the game (this was basically my first run mind you) I had no issues with the traps. Like, the first time I got hit I commended Theundead for being clever and avoided it the next time. I mean, he gives you three hits and most of the traps only make you lose one, and at any rate you can avoid most of them by triggering them and then taking a step back and avoiding it. Honestly the traps were a little cheap the first time around but its not hard to remember where they were and it is pretty easy to avoid them on your second go. As for the enemies/hazards, I actually thought their placement/usage was actually very well done. They were all in clever locations which forced you to try and think how to get around them, but never in a place which I felt was too cheap. I didn't really have too many issues with the levels and I was able to beat most of them in 3-6 tries (enough to get a feel for the entire layout) and in most of my proceeding runs I didn't lose a single life. The game punishes you for going too fast and not paying attention to your environment/remembering not to walk into a trap. I think that everything was well paced and the difficulty was balanced appropriately, there was no point where I felt that the game got to unfair for me to complete. I am awful at playing sploder games so if I didn't have too many issues with this game neither should a lot of experienced players.

I feel like this game has kind of a silly story but the game is done well. I can ignore the irrelevant details behind the plot just to enjoy the game. It has the basics I need to get started and not invest to much into my characters. This game doesn't take itself seriously and thats what makes it so fun. Theundead doesn't try and incorporate certain things because he has to, he just puts down what he thinks makes a fun level.

This game doesn't really present anything to memorable, but as I was looking through the scores I realized that this game is actually pretty good as far as the basics go. I know for me it was pretty fun to play through and I definitely enjoyed the quick playthrough, so you know what, I think I will feature it. Its not particularly revolutionary but it definitely sets a good standard for well made ppg platformer games.
