Hello, and welcome to the first review by, well, myownself. This review is a tweaked version of my application on the forums.

Intro: *I*, was personally excited when I saw Sonic Boom in the featured games section. I believe that all the mario and zelda games have been getting a bit old. This game has been a long time coming, but would it really live up to the little blue hedgehog?

Game-play: I was really hoping for, and looking forward to, the same speedy game play as the real sonic games, but instead it seemed like a mario game with a sonic sprite. This ended up being just fine with me though, because I came to realize it's impossible to do this with the length of the PPG levels. Afterall, what would a sploder game be, without the editors own twist. Alot of the levels you played through, were spin-offs of the orignial games. (More on this later) The levels were smaller due to the PPG engine, and as I have already stated, it wasn't extremly fast gameplay. The motions were still smooth and the animations were in-sync with everything else.

My one major problem with the game-play, was that some of the platforms were placed in bad areas. In many of the levels there were atleast 3 different ways to get done with the level a lot faster than was intended. Although this did help me some times, it really made the game to easy, and sometime unenjoyable. Another problem I had was the fact the rings were there for no reason. It was nice for art and everything, but they didn't provide lives. They also had nothing to do with the goal of the game. This would have made the game more enjoyable, but instead the editor just left them for decoration. The boss fight against Dr. gEgman was also to easy. There were shortcuts for him as well. I made it through him without dying once.

Graphics: There is nothing bad I can say about this game's graphics. Sonic was made perfectly. The editor made sonic look like the orginal in every way. Amy, knuckles, tails, and metal sonic also made guess appearances. Each of them looked outstanding and even though they weren't animated, they were place in great places to make the backgrounds more enjoyable.

The enemies, including Dr. Eggman, were also very detailed. They all looked like their actual selves from the real game as well. As I played the game, the graphics themselves seemed to bring back some nostalgia. This I thoroughly enjoyed.

Enemy placement: Because of the short-cuts in the game, the first time I played the game, I didn't really get to enjoy them. But after I played it again, the game became I lot harder. The enemys and their projectiles were places in such devious areas, that many times, I died before I reached the end of the level. There were places, such as elongated hallways, where you had to use perfect manuvering to get through. Enemys blocking the keys, which you used to unluck doors, were placed in areas where you sometimes had to get past a few lava pits, or turrets and flying enemies.

Overall: I almost decided that this game wasn't feature worthy because of all the shortcuts, and the surprisingly easy final boss, but then I realized, "I can't look past such great graphics and nostalgia".

Pros: The game, with it's graphics, brought back a far amount of nostalgia for me. Even though the game wasn't as fast moving as sonic usually is, I enjoyed the sploder twist. To me, every character was perfectly designed, and looked just like the originals. I loved the fact that the editor put in certain areas, some of the other characters from the Sonic series.

Cons: The only true bad parts of the game were all the shortcuts and the Dr. Eggman boss fight. In the end the boss fight was just to easy. I suggest that next time, the editor should test his game more.

Conclusion: So in the end, I loved the game, even with the annoying, and some times even on accident, shortcuts, and they easy boss, that the game was feature worth. Next time though, the editor should make sure to test his game a little more to fix these problems. What it a boom? No. Was is a bomb? No.

Ratings:

Game-play: ***--*****--This was due to the fact that there were to many shortcuts and i way to easy boss fight.

Graphics:*****-*****----Every graphic created was perfect, and looked exactly like the orginal.

Enemy placement: *****-*****---When I replayed the game, trying not to use the shortcuts, I realized the their placement was also perfect.
