Mystifying Fog is a game created by gallade265

Introduction:

Ohaider everyone. I'm here today to review another game. This time, it's a shooter called Mystifying Fog by Gallade265. He made this game back in 2011. It's so old, Miracle Reviews still existed at that time. It was one of the biggest reviewing centers, I don't think anyone was able to beat the amount of reviews MR made, even up until now. At that time, I was just recently promoted to the position of reviewer. (I was promoted the day before Gallade published his game. :D) That was a time where I was still learning the ropes of becoming a good reviewer here. Even if this game is pretty old, will it be able to stack up with today's shooters or not? From 2011 until now though, I don't think there were any heavy updates to the shooter. So, it should still be a bit similar to today's shooters. The only difference would be the style of the game. I'm actually expecting quite a lot from this game since I know how skilled Gallade is with the shooter creator.

Review:

The title of the game was very intriguing. It made me think that this would be a sort of puzzle game. But, I may be wrong on that. Just looking at the 10 difficulty rating kind of discouraged me since I have never ever finished any sploder game that has 10 as its difficulty rating. I'm only able to finish those with 8 and below, so I'm pretty screwed. But I hope I'll at least get to the near end of the game so that I may be able to give a more solid opinion. Well, I wouldn't be making this review if I didn't though. Anyway, I didn't see any mystifying fog throughout the game. Well that was pretty obvious since you really can't add fog on the shooter. Unless Gallade meant that the mystifying fog was the mysterious fog of war, then I guess he got that right. There were polys that covered the map, but not the enemies at times. But then again the enemies were like a warning sign to me. It looked like it was trying to tell me this: "If you enter here, you're screwed lol." The game didn't contain a storyline to come with it so I can't really comment on something that isn't there. I would have appreciated the game more if there was a good storyline, but oh well. I wouldn't could that as a disadvantage though. If you think you can't make a storyline, then don't. Simple as that.

Once you press 'click to play' you already know you're going to die at first glance. Unless you've prepared very well for it, you won't die. It was kind of disappointing though because those turrets and stuff over there reduced your health by a lot so that you'd have a harder time throughout the game. Then suddenly, there's this mega health just sitting there once you destroy a disruptor. I was expecting some sort of trap or something like that. It made it pretty easy. The difficulty throughout the game was normal-hard for me but to be honest, this wasn't a game I could complete. Sadly, this wasn't much of a puzzle game either. It was more of a 'random stuff shooting at you because you're bad to them but you don't know why' game. It was pretty repetitive. The difficulty is okay for the average-pro players. Though, I would just consider myself to be an average player. I'm not that good at completing games unless they're mine. I'm pretty sure a large percentage of sploder members would say that as well because duh, you made it. You'd know all the ins and outs of it. Anyway, the enemies in the game were kind of a nuisance, (Of course they were. Tf brain.) but not in a good way. They were just the same type of enemy over and over again. The game wasn't too addictive to begin with either. (I read through the comments of this game, majority of them say it's really addicting. I have to honestly and respectfully disagree with that. I guess the style of the game wasn't my favorite cup of tea.) Plus, the game starts to lag at one point and that's what really ticked me off. Though it goes away after a while, it was still annoying. The beginning of the game seemed really good, but it seemed to go downhill from there. I guess Gallade ran out of ideas or something.

The placements were overall average. In the beginning I was pretty impressed, but I guess you don't judge a book by its cover. As I had stated earlier, it went downhill. The map's structure was weird. At some parts, it was proportionate and congruent. But, when you reach the other parts it's like mixed spaghetti noodles. It's so uneven, wavy, spiky, and really messy at times. I would say the same for the enemy placement. Sometimes there was too little enemies here, sometimes there's too much there. Plus, there were areas where you could kill all the enemies and none of them would be able to touch you at all. What I found really annoying though is that there were too much health given to you in places where it was pretty much deserted and unneeded. But when you get to the parts with the most enemies, you'd find almost nothing. It's like giving medicine to someone who's perfectly healthy and ignoring the ones who are dying. I didn't die while playing though, I just kept glitching out of the map when the enemies kept pushing me and stuff. To be honest, there were too many speeders that were unnecessarily placed. They barely do damage to you, they can't really push you towards anything either. I think they're the most useless things in the shooter creator. There were times where his placements were good, but there were more bad than good. That kind of disappointed me. Sometimes too much, sometimes too little. That's how I'd summarize how Gallade placed everything in Mystifying Fog.

As for the design and scenery. I can't really comment on that since there was barely any decoration in the game. But, I guess I'll comment on the map's aesthetics overall. It felt really weird. If you make a map, choose one and go. Don't make it both square and wavy. They just really don't go together. It feels like a mess. It's like putting something old with the new. It just wouldn't fit right in. There are times when they can, but most of the time, it's impossible. The thumbnail of the game basically shows you the whole map. From a distance though, I can honestly say that the map looks pretty. But when you finally get to playing the game, the thumbnail was very misleading. It was like some sort of illusion. You won't see that kind of map that the thumbnail presented because it was all hidden by 'fog' which I thought was a pretty creative idea. I can't really say if the little puzzles and traps Gallade added were original because in the current time frame, they're all used and old. But if I were to review this in 2011, I'm pretty sure I could give a more solid response.

Ratings:

Creativity: ___.5/_____

The design wasn't the best, but I will give credit to Gallade for making a title that really matches what the game does/has in it.

Placements: ___/_____

It was pretty average, it had its ups and downs.

Originality: -/_____

Like what I said earlier, I can't really say if it was original because in the current time frame, they're all used and old. If I were to review this in 2011, I'm pretty sure I could give a more solid response. So for now, I'm not going to be rating this area and it won't affect the overall score.

Addictiveness: __/_____

Not too addicting in my opinion.

Difficulty: ____/_____

The difficulty was okay, though it could just go from easy to hard and back to easy in a really awkward way.

Overall: ___.13/_____

Conclusion:

I can honestly say that this game doesn't stack up to the shooters of this generation. I'm pretty sure Gallade's more current shooters are much more impressive than this. I don't know the reason why Gallade wanted me to review this old game and not his new ones, but that's alright. I guess he wanted to see how much of an improvement he's made. Mystifying Fog overall is just an average game. I wouldn't call it a bad game though. It had it's ups and downs though I think the cons overweighed the pros this time. There are actually a lot of things Gallade could have and should have done to improve Mystifying Fog, but it's too late now lmao. I wouldn't say that this game deserves a feature, to be completely honest with you all. Anyway, thank you all once again for reading my review. I really appreciate it. This is Mash, about to play Skyrim and hopefully slay dragons in a bit. :D
