Red Rock is a game created by defensified

Introduction & Pre-thoughts

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my review dedicated to a shooter game named **Red rock** made by our honourable Dragon which is also known as defensified. His games have always been a source of inspiration for many users which I also make part of, because of the amount of effort he puts in every dribe of gameplay shared to us. Having several games into the Epic Game Library and revolutionizing the shooter creator by coming up with unique types of puzzles that have never been discovered in the past is a proof of his skills. As the thumbnail takes an important role in every shooter by keeping the viewers in suspense, I'd like to snatch a look at it first before starting off with the gameplay. It represents a mysterious man with a hat and I have to admit, it formed me a decent first impression. But, letting the thumbnail apart, the question is...can Red Rock reach mrdragon's EGL games' standards? Let's move the curtains and see what the game is capable of...

Gameplay:

The game starts off with a relaxing background composed of a shade of red, and a decent yet short and confusing story that includes the fact you are on a red rock, an isle in the middle of the sea. Seeing the difficulty button spinning like hell, a thrill has made my heart change its rhythm. The background has been lying...Once the shiny and attractive start button gets pressed...everything gathers life. The introducing part bites all your health points and courage to explore the game further, but the time of five whole minutes isn't waiting. The game is based of assassinating your enemies while searching the crystal and being invisible, making yourself feel guilty because of the blood in your hands. Being a combination of a stealth, action and puzzle type, it requires the strategy of managing your own HP and the items you have to collect as the game progresses. The game is rich in power ups that have been placed at a roughly equal distance although it proves to be a real challenge to everyone playing it. One of the best ideas introduced in this game is the 'guard's path', I can say. The enemies follow a continuous path that you have to avoid through the radar, and meeting one of those killing machines that have no mercy isn't funny. Avoiding the heavy cruisers and silently stabbing the spider keys while having a thin line in your healthbar isn't easy and every time you explode, the retry button is your best friend, partially because of the game's addictiveness. It's one of the several action shooters that gave me the necessary determination to keep trying instead of pressing the red 'X' button straight away after dying once.

Full of thrilling and intense action, Red rock requires a strategy as I mentioned earlier. Every item you gain by progressing into the game or you start with should be used wisely, either it's most likely you won't complete the challenge that awaits you. The cannonballs, rockets, bots or the laser are all the same. You don't pay attention to what weapon you use while playing the game, because enemies aren't waiting ya. Running is not an option, you have to face the game while the game faces you. Red Rock is close, yet so far to be perfect. As everything else, it has its own cons. It becomes repetitive at one point, and the players want something new every step progressed into the game, and it's really difficult. I can't complain about its difficulty after all, that's what it makes it so special and so addictive. The map's design was creative but defensified didn't show us his full potential with it. I appreciated the fact that every part had enough space for the player, enemies and parts of the design to fit in and the map didn't split in tight and boring passages. The tiny, yet useful safehouses that contain various helpful items were also original ideas that I didn't meet on many games. It was a nice way to manipulate the placement, keeping the items at one place and not spread everywhere, making the game look tedious and unorganized.

Honestly, the design was simple but sweet just like an orange candy. The ol' good hot polygons proved to give life to the game by taking part into the design and even fitting the background well. Probably this is the only thing that can calm down the player that is next to making a heart attack due to an overdose of deep and intense action. The placement was pretty charming, considering players had enough health that has been repartised well so players could survive an unexpected attack.

Ratings:

Gameplay (mix between stealth and action): 10/10

Placement: 8.5/10

Fun: 10/10

Design: 8.5/10

Conclusion:

As a whole, the game proves to be really fun and intense in terms of action. The background and design didn't really fit well with the game as they give a relaxing impression over it and, trust me. It's not like that. Of course it's feature worthy, I can even say it's half way to EGL but not more because it was kind of repetitive. To answer the question in the introduction, it is pretty close to being able to be compared to other game of his, such as Number 4 and Energy but considering they are different types of shooters, I wouldn't be able to choose a 'best' and a 'worst'.

Thank you for reading my review, hope you enjoyed it!
