A review of Hang Castle III: Nightmares and Delusions, By Superluigi77

Game type: Classic Shooter

Written by: Tbremise.

Opening Remarks: I am proud to announce that this will be the final review for the Epic Game Drop (EGD), wrapping up a great set of games with one of the hardest to beat, Hang Castle III: N & D. Superluigi77 is known for some great games, and although Hang Castle III is less know than some of his other games, the game has some great aspects to it. I am going to be honest, this game is ridiculously hard, that is why his game is getting the last EGD review, because no one else could get very far, but after playing the game for a while, you get addicted to the game and grow appreciative of what Superluigi77 has done with it.

Review: The Story, something you don’t always see in shooter games, was well developed. As the story goes, you are a person, trapped inside a castle, alone with one other. You are challenged by the man, saying that only one will be there by the end of the day. How Superluigi77 fulfills his story is by hitting the player with a melody of puzzles, enemies and tricks. Some may not notice the story line if they are just playing for the sake of winning, but if you actually take the time to piece together the story; you can grow appreciative of what Superluigi77 has worked on portraying. Later on, after you pass some of the more difficult areas in part 1 of the game, you approach part 2, which revives the game and gives it some new and fun challenges. The story continues as you are passing through these puzzles and traps, all in the hopes to defeat this man in the castle. All I can say is this man has pulled out all the stops in trying to stop you from being the last one standing.

I thought that the game was well put together, except for the fact that no one can beat it, but hey, who doesn’t like a good challenge. The challenge came from many places, but the puzzles in the game were definitely a huge factor. Superluigi77’s ability to use the switchpoly in a multitude of ways was one of the greatest puzzles in the game, with you having to find the areas to unlock each new addition to the castle, protected by and hidden under enemies. I am still amazed at one concept though, a little while into the game, he uses the red key and blocks to make a very unique puzzle I’ve never seen before, where you need to lure out an enemy to help open the pathway for you, blocked by a one way door. These puzzles were a great factor in the game and kept the game exciting and upbeat.

The game has a nice uniformed look to it too, with what is limited for the background and the look of the game maker, Superluigi77 did a nice job portraying a castle, with traps waiting at every bend. Though some parts of the game appeared regular and at times boring, the castle was always hiding something within its twists and turns. If you found the hexagons to open new parts of the map, you can be very surprise at what you find. Superluigi77 doesn’t make this game impossible, as many probably believe; he sprinkles in every so often a health item or some other helpful upgrade. Without these extras lying about, I would have found this game to be practically impossible. The funny thing about these upgrades are, they are usually hidden or placed just out of reach, this forces you to think about how you are going to reach these and if it is worth it, or if it will be a trap. These random expansions to the game, along with the surprising upgrades and enemies helps keep the game exciting, which in turn makes it slightly addicting once you get passed a certain point in the game.

Well, I am sorry to say, but every great game has its flaws. One of the biggest issues in this game in my opinion is how it will lag, due to how much Superluigi77 has put into this game. The lag works together with the one famous glitch in the classic shooter, where you are hurled into one of the walls and then get trapped behind the wall instead of still being on the actual gameplay floor. I had to deal with this issue several times, but I suppose it cannot be helped. Another thing to point out is the difficulty level, if you get a little ways into the game you can see that Superluigi77 favors reversers and Moguras, along with a bugmeister at one point, though this isn’t really the issue in the game, with so many enemies that can cause large amounts of damage, he has to face the fact that most casual gamers on sploder will just give up due to the fact that they cannot beat those enemies.

Well, I think I have talked long enough about the game, let’s do some scoring.

The Good: I liked the story line and the way Superluigi77 used his puzzles.

The Bad: The difficulty will turn away most casual gamers, only hardcore have a chance.

The Ugly: The lag at times along with the wall glitch.

Gameplay: 4/5 (Was well thought out)

Creativity: 5/5 (The story line and puzzles)

Decoration/ Background/ Feel: 4/5 (Was not bad, had surprises)

Traps: 4/5 (Works together with the puzzles)

Addictiveness/fun: 3/5 (It was perhaps too difficult at times, but still not that bad.)

Conclusion: 4/5

What are my thoughts on this game being feature-able, well; it definitely holds to the standards that I would deem a feature worthy game, so yes feature worthy. Hang Castle III: N & D is a great and challenging shooter; if you have the time and the patience you may actually get a chance at beating this gem. I am still amazed at some of the concepts that were used in this game and can honestly say, if Superluigi77 ever makes another Hang Castle, I will be will to play it.
