Intro:

Haven't seen me for while have you! Well I'm back for another ASG review on the fantastic Virus X by Lordeldar. Now someone give me a medal for the shortest intro all ready D=.

Pre-thoughts:

I literally didn't know ANYTHING about this game before I played it, Lord just posted the link in a tinychat room and asked me and some others to test it (along with some amazing commentary from Shadross ;) ) so I happened to do so. The only thing I can really mention in the pre-thoughts is about Lord. Lordeldar (or Lord as I will call her ((I think it's a she)) ) has had many features under her belt, such as Revival Expansion Pack which was indeed a very good game. So with these features, I was hoping to get a good game.

Gameplay:

Well folks...I got exactly that! In fact it more than I expected. There wasn't some kind of underground intro with a story, it leapt straight into the game with the first introductory level. The only thing that got me about the game as a whole is that there was no graphics at all, it was plainly built, which in this case was a good thing, the general and wizard was gave roles which actually suited them well as did the owl. The amount of side quests there is is however limited which was a flaw in this game. The levels were very open spaced throughout and had plenty of room to explore the obscure terrain. Whether is was vertical or horizontal, there was always time to explore. The action genre of the game itself was very packed, mutants were frequently appearing throughout the game whether they dropped through tiles or perched onto of roofs. This links on perfectly to the storyline =D! So the storyline went like this: You wake up, an ordinary day. You turn on the TV to discover what is known as Virus X. The most deadly virus humanity has seen so far. Whole cities are being evacuated to "safe zones" and people are fighting for their lives. You quickly find yourself caught up in the damage caused by the virus, being forced into helping research Virus X. As your journey further, you realise there is more to the virus than what meets the eye, and the sacrifice that comes with the virus.

So, as we can see this game is about a Virus which is spreading throughout the world. The mutants I imagine held the virus. But personally I think they were very overused. The structure of the game was very well planed out, divided into 10 levels of story and action levels. Caves, trains everything! Was there anything this game not have. Apparently so, as mentioned before, there was very little variation in the enemies within the first few levels and I started to count that a flaw, but! Once I started to progress, the variety increased. I would imagine Lordeldar did this to emphasize the fact that the virus is spreading. Another thing that I really liked was the T.V feature. Sure, there wasn't a literal T.V there, put an owl was placed behind blocks spurting out information about the Virus. So far so good.

Scenery:

With a game like this you would expect quite a lot of scenery, nope! It was very bland, there was little variation within the scenery. The only pieces of scenery I found was panels in houses and grass outside, that was it. However, this was effective. There was very little grass to show off that the areas have been destroyed. The effect of the scenery was very good.

Difficulty:

Very hard! That's all I can say! This game will be a 10 by the next week for sure. Sure, it took me 3 attempts to beat it, but I was being very cautious at the time. If you were to attempt to storm through it, you would miss all the powerups and die like I did a lot :). The one thing that makes it easier is the quantity of lives and health. I think Lordeldar could've took 1 life away but the amount is still good. Me personally, I made it through levels 1-5 without losing a life and won with two lives left. Never the less very hard.

Pros: ( 1)

Immense difficulty

Effective storyline

Gameplay in a whole

Graphicless

Cons: (-1)

Little variation

Not much scenery.

EGL Worthy?!?: Not yet, the game is still very impressive.

What makes it feature worthy?

For me the things that make Virus X feature worthy are:

1. The difficulty.

2. The enjoyment gained out of it.

3. The adaptation of the enemies.

And that was a review on Virus X. Bye peeps ;)
